Non Food Motivated: help? Help! my puppy doesnt like treats: at all.... I have tried: 11 different kinds of store bought treats (including freeze dried liver) cheese, hotdogs, ham/chicken, peanut butter, etc. She's really not big in to her toys either. How can I potty train her, etc, without the help of food? Ive been giving her lots of praise, but thats not doing it by itself. I was thinking of trying clicker training, but they say to associate the clicker with a treat at the begining, and I cant b/c she wont eat the treats! Arg! |
she doesn't like chicken !!!! no cheese either??? wow Let's see... have you tried chattiesmom's yorkie yummies??? they are very popular among yorkies... |
Wow, I'm shocked too. What kind of cheese did you try? I use the lactose free string cheese. Have you tried Cherios? How old is your puppy? If she's young, they're supposed to be rambunctious, running and bumping everywhere. I'm asking because I'm quite concern that she's not interested in toys or treats. Have you taken her for a health exam? |
Wow I'm in shock with the others about the cheese. I agree, Cheerios are a huge hit in my house along with the Yorkie Yummies. And I know these are bad but snausages (sp?) are a favorite too. I cut each one though into about 6 or 7 small slices. Therefore one treat actually is about 6 :) |
It is pretty odd that she doesnt want to play with her toys or human treats... try throwing an ice cude on non carpeted floors... see if she runs after and plays. Chewy loves to do that. Def. try cheerios as well or maybe a tiny peice of apple or baby carrot. Chewy also LOVES yorkie yummies as someone suggested. good luck and maybe a vet exam may be necessary if she is still not interested in anything...what about dog food? is she eating? |
Shes perfectly healthy..shes been vet checked, and I didnt mean she didnt like toys, she loves to run around and play, (her favorite is to tear aroud the living room in a huge circle) but as far as a squeeky toy or something for training, she seems uninterested. She eats her wet food mixed with dry no problem 4 times a day, and I leave dry food out that she munches on, so shes eating fine, its more of a disinterest, non food motivated. I tried the lactose free string cheese already. Ill give cheerios and the yorkie treats a try. Thanks so much for everyones input |
Penny's treats are: the soft ones we get at the vet, all natural "crumbly" cookies, Yorkie Yummies, and she loves puppy milkbones. We just ordered some frozen yogurt for doggies.;) |
Lily was the same way, I am just now taking her to training class,I waited for many reasons but one was the fact that when she was younger she had no interest in treats of any kind. She would try it once and then not care for it again. What finally worked for us was at one of are trips to the dog park I was trying to give her a treat and another dog came up and ate it, I tried to give her another one and she would not take it so I gave it to the other dog, she got so mad. Ever since then for some reason she loves them if she acts like she does not want it I pretend to eat it and then she gets all excited LOL. |
