New Yorkie owner Hi all, Greetings from the Emerald Isle! My name is Drew and our family just brought home Chester, our first Yorkie, this week. :) He's currently 12 weeks old, and doing great. I look forward to exploring YT and learning more about the breed. Our five year old daughter adores him, and is very gentle. We'll be starting housetraining immediately, so wish us luck. He's not doing bad so far, giving me hope for an easy training period. |
Hi Drew.....nice to see you on the forum :D Good luck with the house training my 2 picked it up no problem , we used the trainning pads at n after a few first and then once all the injections were over with we just took them outside.:) That's great that your daughter is very gentle with them as they can be quite fragile. I'm sure as you learn more about your little guy he wont be your last yorkie.:D |
Lol that's what you think now! Welcome to YT! You'll learn all you could want from here! |
Hello and welcome to YT. Congratulations on your pup. I just love the name. You will find this site a fountain of information and the people are very caring and helpful. |
Welcome to YT!!! look forward to seeing your Chester!!!! :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk Drew and Chester!!! I think you will love it hear! :yorkietal The only problem you will have is that you will become addicted to this place and have trouble getting things done  Can't wait to see pictures of Chester :p |
Welcome to YT! Can't wait to see Chester! Hope you stick around...this is a great community where you can learn a whole lot. WARNING: I started out with one little yorkie and now I have three. They are like potato chips...you can't have just one:D Good luck on the potty training. I have a 15 week old named Ranger who is doing well for his age I guess, but accidents do happen. They are always my fault because I let him run off in the house without watching him. One word of advice...if you have a little play pen or something like that, put him in there if you can't watch him every second. My little bugger does not like the puppy pads my other Yorkies use. He would rather go outside or in the kitchen..hehe |
Welcome to YT. Congrats on Chester and good luck with his training. Looking forward to see pics of Chester! :) |

Greetings and welcome to YT..... you will LOVE your yorkie I am sure. We'd like pictures of the wee laddy from the Emerald Isle. My family roots have been traced to Carrickmacross, Jackson Delaney was my ancestor from there. Upon coming to America it was transposed to Delaney Jackson, thus the family last name meaning son of Jack. |
Hello and Welcome ! Congrats on the Baby :) |
Welcome to YT! BE PREPARED TO FALL IN LOVE!!! With Chester..... and us:sidesplt: |
2 Attachment(s) You guys are quick! :) Here's some pictures of Chester. I have more on flickr: Chester - a set on Flickr I have to admit I'm not Irish (though I did have Irish ancestors a few generations back). We're just Americans out exploring the world! But it's fun exploring new places. Cheers! :animal-pa |

Oh, we've had quite a few accidents already, but that's ok. I think he's getting the hang of things, but it's only been a week so that could be hopeful thinking. :D The downstairs is all wood flooring so cleanup is easy. We've already learned that he needs constant supervision. We have a small crate, and will use that as part of his training. Luckily my wife says at home so that should help out. We have a small back garden right off the kitchen so we just leave the door open giving him a chance to run around safely and do his business. Quote:

Seems my first reply is waiting moderation, but in the meantime here's the link to some photos of Chester on flickr: Chester - a set on Flickr Quote:

Hi and welcome to YT! Looking forward to seeing pictures of Chester! Enjoy the forums!! :) |
Welcome to YT!! Chester will really benefit from crate training - and so will the rest of your family ;) - Sounds like Chester is busy spreading love to all! |
House training Welcome! I too am a new yorkie owner. I have had a lot of dogs in my life and I have to say Rambeau has been the easiest to house train. He has been the easiest to train all around. I didn't have to really do anything. Naturally he doesn't want pee to soak his feet so he chose going in the lawn versus a wood floor. Within 2 weeks he was standing at the door when he had to go and would come running when he was done because there is always a celebration. Same with coming to his name, I didn't have to do anything except act like the greatest thing in the world has happened and he was the one who did it. He has always naturally walked on a leash as long as we use a halter. The biggest challenge is 'sitting', he's so short I can't tell if he has accomplished it. For house training I have never used pee pads if they have easy access to the outdoors. It seems to me it is reinforcing going inside instead of outside. |
I love Dublin! What a great place to live. Chester sounds like a great little man. Best wishes in raising and training him. |
those pictures of him are adorable! Your little girl is a beauty and i can see she loves Chester |
