Ralhpie ate my bubble gum!!!!!!!!!!. Tonight I was driving home with Ralphie on my lap. Maybe I am just gross, but earlier today I spit my gum out and wrapped it up in some paper...I know, I should have known better. Well, the little booger found it. I could not figure out what he kept chewing on but I did notice this yummy fruity aroma. Sooo, I finally reached in his mouth to pull whatever he was chewing on out (like I do about 50 times a day) and he started screaming because it was all stuck in his little beard. Poor baby!! So i called my boyfriend and we both just had no idea what to do. It was everywhere, I just wanted to cry. So I remembered when I was a little girl I had used ice before to make the gum harden so you could either pull or cut it out. When I got home my boyfriend was waiting with ice and scissors. Ralphie had the gum all stuck right against his skin in his mustache by the way. Long story short I had to hold ice on his mouth and hold him down while my BF cut huge chunks of hair out of his beard. He still has a little left but it is so close to his skin I just can't bring myself to cut it out. Poor baby is a little lop sided and his hair looks pretty ridiculous but he survived :D Anyone else ever even heard of something like this?? Please say yes so I don't feel like the worst mommy in the world :( |
LOL! I can say yes...that same thing happened here just a few nights ago. Libby found gum wrapped in paper and was chomping away on it. Luckily I saw what she was doing before it got too bad. She had a little in her hair and beard that I was able to get out. Poor little Ralphie...sorry he ended up losing a lot of hair. It will grow back! You're not a bad Mommy! These little stinkers are always looking for trouble! |
Peanut butter! Use peanut butter if it ever happens again. It is oily and that will help you pull/slide the peanut butter out. Ice is used if it is on 'something' like upholstery, floors and such so that the gum will harden and you can flake it off. Poor baby. And poor you! What a trauma.:( |
Yep, peanut butter works everytime. It happened to my little shih-tzu once too she loved any kind of fruity candy she could find she even ate sour power. |

That was supposed to read thusly: It will help you slide the gum out. Not slide the peanut butter out. :D:p Sorry. |
Ha Ha, I knew what you meant!! It's funny because I actually mentioned peanut butter in the frantic phone call to my BF. He offered to go out and buy some but it was late and I just wanted to do something right away. Another time when I was a little girl I had to use Peaunut butter to get the gum out of my hair. Geez... apparently gum has been a major issue for me my whole life, I just keep chewing it and getting it stuck in hair!! THANKS!! Quote:

Aww poor Ralphie!! Glad you got it away from him before he could swallow some. Gum is dangerous for dogs. I'm sure he's still cute as button, even if he's a little lop sided. Can't wait to meet him when he's doing better! |
awww ralphie. gald you got it all out though! your not a bad mommy dont worry! my bindi tried to eat an EARTHWORM:eek: nast |

Bindi has been interested in the snails that have been coming out now... |
So sorry this happened! But don't freak out, you're not a bad Mommy! One of my dogs ate chewing gum once, sadly it was probably stuck to our garage/drive-way from someone else and she found it. It didn't end up in any of her hair, because she ate it. We were worried sick that she'd get sick from eating the gum, but she didn't. The silver lining: this dog had the worst breathe (on a regular basis) than any other dog we'd ever had. But for a few days afterwards her breath was minty fresh! (Gross but great all at the same time). |

Ha ha, that is sooo true about the good breath. Ralphie's breath is so fruity now. Maybe I should give him gum more often :p |

Be careful that she doesn't eat any of these toxic frogs we have around here. They are BAD news. My 13 year old Yorkie that lives with my mother licked one once. She started foaming at the mouth, hallucinating, and her heart went into arrythmia. Very scary. We rushed her to an all night ER and they kept her overnight and she was fine. She would have died if we had gotten there just a little later they said though. These toads come out early in the morning and at dusk so be careful with sweet little Bindi. |
