My Yorkie licks thr air Hello, everybody... This is my first time trying to connect with the Yorkie community. Will it work? My 7 yr old Yorkie, Sammy, has started to obsessively lick the air. The books say this is a sign of tension, but nothing has changed in his happy little life. Any ideas of why this behavior and how I might discourage it? |
I have no experience with it but just want to say hello and welcome! |
Interesting theory because my Murphy licks the air too not too much but enough to make me think what the heck is he doing??? LOL... Murphy is so spoiled how could it be tension? :p :p I am interested to see what others think or say! |
Oh and sorry meant to say Welcome to YT!! :yorkietal |
Thanks! Thanks for your words of welcome!:) |
Brownie does this sometime's Usually he has a tiny piece of hair over his mouth he's trying to get. |
Welcome. Interesting issue. Hope you find an answer. |
Hello and welcome!....Check the corners of Sammy's mouth carefully....I had this happen several times with one of my yorkies and he had swallowed a strand of hair....It was gross, the poor thing had a strand about 4 inches long going down his throat....It apparently happened when he was chewing on a chewy..... |
Welcome. My Pom does that and has for 11 years. |
Oh my gosh, can't believe someone else has an air licking yorkie. My Phyllis has been doing this since last Aug. It first happened when my daughter and her husband came to visit. She would just sit there and look at them and lick the air and like try to streach out close to them without touching them. She will do this when someone comes in the house. When we go to bed at night she will lay on my belly and look at my husband and ( streaching her neck out to almost touch him) will lick the air for about 20 mins. then burp! Or she will get on his belly and lick my way. She does this every night before going to sleep. I have no idea why she does this. I thought at first she had a stray hair but this has been going on everynight for 9 months now. I don't know why she does this. Guess it is just her little habit. |
My mom's Peekapoo used to do that too....we used to call it catching flies....always thought of it as a nervous tic or something?! I really don't know either....good question!! |
Not to scare you all but this could be a sign of a neurological problem! Brooke was diagnosed with GME, an inflammatory brain disease and that is one of the symptoms of it. The look like they are licking the air, or catching flies or just looking up at nothing. But, they are also ataxic (wobbly), have a head tilt, or are weak on one side, and many more symptoms. All your dogs probably just have a funny habit....but I wanted to throw this out there, in case you have other symptoms. |
Catching Flies! :idontknow:aimeeyorkNygee started having these episodes of licking about 2mo.ago, and always at bedtime...I didn't know what to make of it... She just looks so cute and funny, and I'm always wondering what is she licking, I thought it was her nose. LOL Out of my 3, she's the only one that does this... :welcome4:to YT, This is an Amazing Place! :2hearts2:Mommy to :aimeeyorkNygee, :aimeeyorkGizmo & :aimeeyorkGypsy!:2hearts2: |
