I got that at petco the other day and jac is Almost 5lb, they said "is he a teacup" and i said "no he's a dog"

I get this all the time, Brooke & Bitsy (my chi) are 3 pounders and I get so tired of spending the time to educate them. I will tell them that it is a made up word by unscrupulous breeders, what the standard is and that just like people are short or tall so are dogs, big and small. And then they will look at me and say "Well, my friends' dog is a teacup!!" I give up!!

I'm with you on this one! The only time I really go into detail on the whole "teacup" thing is when someone says they're interested in buying a teacup yorkie.

We get the "teacup" questions all the time when we walk Tino and Lola. But we have also gotten the popular..."Is that the Mommy and baby?"....um, HE IS WEARING BLUE!!!! He is NOT a Mommy!! hmm......I wish I could train him to pee on annoying people's legs :wink:

I don't get that either...when I used to work at a dog boutique I would always take Lacy with me. I would have her there and my boss's two yorkies. Lacy is almost 8lbs and the other two yorkies are 3 and 3.5lbs so much smaller than Lacy. A lot of people would ask if she was their mother :confused: Like the offspring will always be smaller than the mother...one was actually 4 years older than Lacy! And they didn't look like puppies at all...they were clearly adults.

I have twin girls and when they were babies, I'd get that too. They were always wearing pink outfits and people would still ask me, "are they boys or girls." I think people just don't think before they speak.

My Zeb is about 10 pounds and about 11 inches tall. My little Zack, bless him, when he was alive was 10 pounds and 10 inches tall although he was nearly as tall as his parents at 10 weeks. I don't care what size they are - size doesn't matter if you love them. I think the origins of the yorkie if I remember right from what I've read is that they were much bigger when they were bred for ratting. When Zack became a father for the first time one of the puppies turned out to be the same size as his parents - the rest were the size of him and his late wife, lovely Poppy.

What also has annoyed me in the past as I've always kept my dogs clipped shorter and one day a woman made a comment - "oh poor things they've got short hair" - I said "Yes they're pets - they're not show dogs." I see many people keep their Yorkies clipped shorter.

as a matter of fact, i was walking lexi last night and i saw this cute little
dog and asked how old it was because it was soo cute and small , i think
he said a s**tsu.. bad spelling i think.. anyway he say to me yeah shes
a teacup ..i just said oh yeah good for you and walked away,,i didnt even
want to get into it..some people just dont know... or some people say, is
that a yorkie.. i say noooooooooo shes a pitbull..
