what setting on the clipper did you use????? i have NEVER cut toby and i have been grroming him since i got him

Don't feel bad at all. This stuff happens. I've nicked both of my puppies with the clippers--they're fine, and they're not scared of the clippers. I've also accidentally cut a nail too short on my cats and my cockatoo. Accidents happen no matter how careful you are. Don't worry--and don't give up clipping her!! :)

I would apply pressure gently like with people, slow/stop the bleeding, the the usual stypic powder and neosporin.

And relax - deep breath. You didn't do it on purpose and she knows that. It is probably hurting you worse than her! Good luck.

Update: Coco still has no idea what happened to her. She's just happy go lucky. She loves the jungle gym that mom got her to say sorry. The snacks were good too..As for the settings and clippers, I use a special clipper made for dogs. I use the smallest clipper setting and have always done a great job grooming her. I always use scissors for the ear hairs. I don't know what I was thinking using those for the ears. But to be honest, I thought those clippers are made to prevent nicks, otherwise people would just use scissors. Those are supposed to be safe to use, so I didn't think there was any danger. If even for a second I thought it would be a danger, I would have never used it on her ears. I just feel so bad. I can't stop crying every time I look at her ear, knowing that I did that. I think it will just take some time to let it sink in.

Orinskye: I'm really glad that you have never cut Toby and I hope you never do. But when you do, accidentally, it feels like crap. I didn't cut her because I was careless or I didn't use the right setting, it was a freak accident. I have also groomed her since I've gotten her, and have never cut her once, until yesterday.

Something a little smaller, weighs less, and may help w/ manuverability...is a mustache trimmer.

i was only asking because now you have me freaked out ..........lol, everytime i think about getting the clippers out i am going to think im going to cut him (irrational i know) i didnt even know that the clippers could cut skin like that :confused: (lol....... i guess that shows how much i know huh?)
well its good to know....... if i am ever "grooming" my fiance and he pisses me off, i can just take out his ear....... "opps" :p

It's amazing because if they specialize these things for animals or kids, they should be safer to use. I mean, why wouldn't they make them nick safe, because children and animals squirm. They are not humans to sit still. I just feel so bad and am usually so cautious and protective. I couldn't bear to look at her all day, so I just kept stuffing her with snacks..haha..Whatever settings you use, just be careful, espcially with areas that could get caught in the blade. Like an ear, or the anal skin. I know I always groom that area so she can poop cleanly but now I think twice. Thank you for the clarification.

i'm glad coco is doing good!!! although, i think it was you we needed to worry about lol. well, if you've been grooming coco since you got her and this is your first accident, you must be really good. i'm glad she's better!!!

Thanks Megan.I would have considered myself a good groomer, until yesterday. Boy am I glad that day is over. Thanks for all of your support you guys. I couldn't have gotten through today without you all. On top of Coco's ear, my laundry room flooded, and I knocked over some applesauce on the carpet. So I had a really rough day. I'm just glad I have a new day today.

Yea I filled the washer up too much, and it started shaking, causing the hose to come undone. Luckily it didn\'t get anywhere near the carpets, but that was also my bad :( I just had a bad day overall.

Amen to that ....trust me I\'ve been having like a bad week....lol..all I can think is Saturday will come..Saturday will come!!!!

On top of Maximus acting like Houdini these last days my bf\'s grandma is sick and so we have been alternating bringing Maximus to work with me while one is at the doctor and yesterday a friend of ours stayed home with him while my bf had to go to the doctor, he didn\'t believe he had just had surgery...he said he was jumping from each of our couches to the loveseat back to the floor and starting all over...then he wanted to play fetch so he kept bringing the frisbee to his feet to throw....lol

I was at home yesterday but I decided to go back to work today. I was trying to avoid having anything bad happen. But my roomate works close to our house and she\'s been checking on Coco and her ear all day. I feel like crap and I can smell my own bacteria..haha...I\'m so glad Maximus is out of the woods and he\'s back to himself. I bet Coco will be like that too when she gets spayed :(
