Has anyone took their puppies to the beach? We are planning a trip to Myrtle Beach within the next month or 2. I have a yorkie puppy, 14 weeks next Wednesday. My question is...is it okay to take him with us? It will be a long drive...7 1/2 to 8 hours if we have good trafiic and do not stop to eat for any length of time. This is my first inside dog. I have a ferret, but she does not go places with us. I have been walking Storm on a leash to get him used to it. I think it could be a lot of fun! I have an 8-year-old and 10-year-old boy, plus my husband who is really just an overgrown kid too. I don't want to take on too much. Have any of ya'll took trips with your puppies? Oh, and would the beach by too hot for him?! |
Ramsey and Reese have been included in our vacations....including ones to the beach. We have a large canopy we set up for shade and lots of fresh water. They love to dig in the sand.... I wouldn't take them for an extended period of time out on the beach unless I could offer them plenty of shade. Btw, sand on yorkie...takes forever to get out. ;) |
I don't see that it would be a problem, just be sure they're allowed on the beach where you're going. Beach rules - scroll down to Myrtle Beach. Hope you all have a blast!!! |
yes sand is kind of hard to get off a dog.. Unless you just let them romp on the wet sand. Less sand gets kicked up in their nose and eyes..My dog used to try and eat the sand...have fun.. |
We took Conner to the beach a couple of weekends ago. He loved it!! He was digging up rocks (that I saved and put in a dish out on my enclosed deck as a momento). I was a little afraid that he was ingesting too much sand because he had it all over his face from sniffing, but he was fine. We can't wait to go again (when the weather warms up again). We live about 10 minutes from the RI beaches. |
I had a dog that loved the beach! Some of my best memories of him are at the beach. My new puppy also loves the beach :) |
Storm's hair is still a bit curly. I read somewhere that if their hair is a bit curly, it will be silver when he is older, and I do see more and more silver each day it seems. I thought of the sand and how hard it would be to get out! I just don't know if I can leave him. It is only a week, but I am he will have separation anxiety...or I might...LOL |
Take storm, you only live once.. take some great black and white photos. You will not regret it. You will cherish these photos someday in storms twilight years. The sand thing is not that big of a deal when you think about the memories you are creating..does that help? Plus dogs love the beach. All the smells and sensations are great for socializing.. |
they need access to fresh water and food if hanging out on the beach. we usually just walk on the beach..because my guy eats sand. plus the get very dirty and need a bath. |
I posted a thread with beach pictures just the other day.:) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...436-beach.html |
