It worked! So today when I went outside to take out the trash, Xena sneaked by me and started running!:2omg: I kept calling her and she wouldn't listen, I was so scared! There is a busy street right by my condo and she was heading that way. I have been watching "It's Me or the Dog" every morning and I remembered Victoria always says dogs like to chase and you have to act like you're having a good time if you want them to come to you. So I started calling her in a high pitched voice like when we play and she immediately stopped in her tracks. I thought "Holy cow this really works!" I kept it going and was like come on Xena, you want a toy, you want a treat, and she came back and ran back inside the door! I was amazed and relieved! I have never had something work so quickly! |
Awesome! So glad it worked for you! This could have been a much sadder thread if it didn't! Lol! Isn't it funny how they all listen when we act like idiots?? LOL! |
I also had to try that on a runaway yorkie several years ago!! She wouldn't come back though until I also started running BACK to my house like there was the biggest prize gonna be waiting for me! She came running right back because she didn't want to miss anything!! I don't want to rely on that, but it does actually work. So glad you kept your wits about you. Now just refuse to ever take the trash out again. :D |

I'm so glad it worked for you.. and thank you for posting that tip... We gate our driveway (the rest is gated) with an xpen when we take the girls out.. but sometimes I worry they'll get out while we're opening the door or something.. Although Kayah listens.. you never know if someone will be driving like a maniac (even though we live in a private neighborhood) Now Evie on the other hand.. I know we wouldn't be able to catch her unless we had a tennis ball (her favorite).. but who has time to go back in the house and look for a tennis ball when their baby is running about? So thanks for the tip.. although I hope I will never have to use it.. it's great just in case:) |
I'm so glad this trick worked for you! I'm going to remember it and give it a try the next time A.J sneaks out the front door when the UPS man comes:rolleyes: |
yOU ARE so lucky cuz Victorias psychology failed on me last week.I was a basket case.Thank goodness for my neighbor. |
I figured it was worth a try, trying to catch her wasn't working. I'm sorry it didn't work for you vviccles, I'm happy your baby is ok and that you have nice neighbors that will help you out. :) |
I'm glad to is safe! |
If i can't get my Pixie in from the garden I will call my Staffy to me...(he is ALWAYS obedient!) she thinks he is going to get a fuss or treat so she will come racing after him just in case she is going to miss out on something! works everytime! :p |
Lol, our buzz word is "treatsies" in the highest voice I can conjure. Works like a charm. :) |
Chico got out once and was heading down the street till I called out "get your leash!" and he ran back to the house. Of course I had to put his leash on him and take him on a short walk. Whew!! |
The same thing happened to me about two months ago. Murphy's harness came off and he was headed for a 4 lane highway. I did exactly what you did and it worked. I am glad everyone is safe! |
Happy to hear "it worked"... Today is a great time to teach your babies to "stay". If Winston were to get loose or out without his leash, all I would have to do is tell him to stay...he'll stop in his tracks and sit down and wait for me. It's really simple to do...try it...you won't be sorry. |
