how do your yorkies... tell you when they have to go outside? I mean Nugget is potty trained but it's like a huge guessing game he never lets us know, its not that big of a deal we live in a house right now with a huge fence so I can just let him out whenever, but soon we will be moving to an apartment, I'll be spending 1/2 my time outside! I'm thinking of getting a bell for the door but I think he would be scared of it. What do you guys think? |
i have a bell that lexi uses when she has to go out to potty or just wants to go outside and she uses it all the time.. i also have a wee pad in her room. i also walk her 3 times a day... you need to train them to use the bell , they are smart dogs so you will have no problem |
it's a little hard to tell with Kash... but he usually starts sniffing around the back door where we let him out (about 3-4 feet away from it)... it's usually when he sniffs a lot that i get suspicious and take him out, and sure enough he goes! sometimes every hour or so, i'll look at him and say, "Kash, outside??" and he'll get all excited, and that's when i usually know he has to go. if he ignores me, it means he doesn't. do you have a word that you use with your pup to signify going potty? if not, find one and use it constantly... repitition is key. if you already have a word or phrase, then keep with it... |
Autumn will go and sit by the back door looking out and Blaze jumps up on your leg and then runs to the door! |
Milo will go to the front door and tap on it, if I don't catch that he will start to pace and make wimpering sounds or growl |
Betty barks. Poor Juju...nada. She's a Yorkie of few words. :p |
Try the bell. Put a bit of peanut butter on the bottom bell. Encourage him to ring it each time you go out to potty. Eventually he will associate the bell with potty. |
How does he let me know? I have him on schedule, but if emergencies pop up, he whines to me! |
