Help!! We need sleep. We have a three year old Yorkie named Dewey. He is create trained. We take his create to our bed room every night. He goes right in and goes to sleep. He wakes up between 4 and 5 am every morning. We get up take him to the bathroom, he has to do number two. We then take him back to bed. He goes in his create, raising cain. He will sit there and whine until we get up. We cannot get back to sleep. He refuses to get in bed with us, the bed scares him to death. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for your help. Sleepy in Georgia. |
Why don't you try just leaving him loose to wander around, is it because you're scared he'll get up to no good? The other is to try and give him treats and entice him on to your bed and slowly get him used to being on the bed with you. If all fails then you might try ear plugs... LOL |
Maybe he is hungry? |
What do you do with him when you get up? |
He is three years old. He never eats in the morning. He will not eat in the morning. |
I would dog proof the room and let him settle where he wants. |

That's what I would do. Maybe get him a nice, comfy dog bed and put it near you. |
He has the run of house anyway. We put his bed in there. Let him roam, he jumps on the side of the bed and barks. When we get up to let him out we don't do anything but let him go out and come back in. |

I've let A.J loose in the bedroom since he's been 8 months old. He goes out to potty right before bed (~11pm) and doesn't whine to go back out until he wakes up around 8am. Most of the night he sleeps on his dog bed at the foot of our bed. Towards morning, he crawls into bed with us. |
When Archie was a puppy, he kept me up at nights about every two hours. My admin assistant at the time suggested that I cover his crate with a pillow case so he couldn't see out -- like covering up a bird cage at night. The cozy darkness made him settle down and he began to sleep through the night. You might try this with his crate so that when you put him back in after his potty break, he'll realize that it's still "sleepy time" and he needs to be quiet. |
Roxi has always slept in bed w/ us.... she has doggy steps and goes potty when she wants and comes right back to bed... She sleeps on our schedule too, if we are up early, so is she. If we sleep in, she does too.. Guess we are lucky. I would try the steps |
