Joey and ankle biting / following feet You would think Joey would have learned after being stepped on, the poor little guy. Unfortunately, he still has a REALLY bad habit of running after our feet and nipping at my pant legs / skirt as I walk. If I tell him NO he thinks its a game and barks louder at me. He seriously thinks I am playing with him! I have bitter apple, but it doesn't seem to bother him (I think he actually likes it!). Any suggestions on how to get him to stop doing this??? |
Water bottle and squirt or stop and say a firm no!!..do nice, that is what I did |
Linus used to do that. He eventually grew out of it. The water bottle is a good idea. You can also use a coke can with pennies, and shake it when he does something bad. They hate that sound! Good luck! |
the water bottle doesn't bother him, but I haven't tried the pennies in the can yet....hopefully that will work! thanks. |
Deegan's the exact same way. It's really annoying. The regular water bottle doens't seem to help, and neither the bitter apple. By the time I get the bitter apple on his tongue (because you can't get it in their eyes) he probably doesn't know what he got it for. So I might spray him with the water/vinegar solution, he doens't like that. It makes him sneeze, but it only stops him temporarily. Maybe I will try the cans too. |

I agree. I'm certain I looked like an acrobat and sometimes still do as Kacee gets under my feet. As far as the foot and ankle biting, I finally had to use the pennies. She didn't like the sound and she'd back off. She could really bite! I didn't have to do that but a few times. Thank goodness. I can't stand to do things to them. It was the only thing that worked. They do grow out of it. Once in a great while she will try it again ;) but I just say no firmly and she stops now. They are ornery little things! :D |
With Rusty I broke him of chasing feet in less than one hour. I sternly told him NO NO NO and then put him in his playpen in the bedroom and shut the door and let him whine for about 20 minutes. Then I retrieved him and he again chased my feet. I repeated the above putting him in time out for another 20 minutes. Again he did it and he was in time out for 30 minutes. He then realized that the effect of chasing feet gets him into time out and has never chased feet or ankles again. He's almost 8 months now and I love kicking off my shoes and petting him with my bare feet. I can rub my foot all over him and he does not mind at all. He learned to respect feet very young. It took 3 time outs for him to associate the chasing and nipping of feet with time out, but he learned at about 10 weeks old, and has never nipped or chased since that day. Hope it helps. |
I agree with the timeout. I use it for behavioral issues very effectively. |
