Harness vs. Collar I am getting ready to get a Yorkie puppy and I was wonder what was best for the dog a Harness or a collar. She will be an inside dog and it would not be for tying up purposes. What do you think? |
collars can damage their fragile trachea....... i would stick with the harness method, Toby didnt like it at first, but he is SO MUCH better at it now..... i only keep a nylon collar on him for the pet ID tags that i will eventually get around to making |
So should I get both? Or can I put the tags on the Harness too? |
you can put the tags on the harness, but you gotta ask yourself "is he/she going to be wearing the harness 24-7"..... my toby only wears his harness on walks so i opted to get him a collar for his tags so he can wear his tags all the time........ what kind of yorkie are you looking for? (male female, size) and have you allready picked it out yet?? |
Well I am not sure they are due in Feb. and I am very excited. The mother is about 4 1/2 lbs. so I am not sure. I am excited. So your yorkie wears his collar 24-7 except when you walk him. That sounds good. The only thing bad about my situation is that they are unreg. but they are not very expensive. Yorkies today are very expensive, at least what I have seen. |
how much are you paying for him if you dont mind me asking......... dont worry, my baby doesnt have papers either, i went on the hunt looking for one that didnt have opapers because the ones that were able to be registered were WAY TO EXPENSIVE........ toby wears his collar all the time though, on walks he wears both his collar AND his harness (it may seem uncomfortablea and a bit much using both, but dont worry..... he doesnt mind in the least)...... i got toby for $500 |
Well they are $250 for males and $350 for females. She was in oklahoma, so I have to drive 3 hours but I think that it is worth it. Thanks for all you input I will be needing some later on when I get him or her. Do you have any other advise for me? Thanks a lot. |
You are getting an AWSOME deal...... $500 was CHEAP in my area (most of them were going for 900-2000...) $250 is amazing....... you oviously sound as if you havent decided whether you want a male or female...... my main advice would be to ask lots of questions, the breeder should be asking you lots of questions as well........ there are LOTS of threads started about what questions to ask, you should do a search on the forum..... Im a little partial to my little guy (he is deffinatly a mommas boy) but i have to say that i started out wanting a female yorkie, but toby chose me...... keep me posted, i want to know all about your baby when you get him/her... youll have to post lots of pics |
I will. My mom got a male a few years back and he never learned how to be potty trained. I am going down there about 5 to 6 weeks after they are born to check them out. I will just see which one I like and go from there. It doesn't really matter that much I am just excited to get one. Well around here they go from any where between 600 to 1500. I will. The owner is going to send weekly pictures of them to me. Thanks a lot |
If your breeder's sending pics once a week and only charging $250 for males, she MUST be doing it 'cause she loves the breed. That's a good sign. Still, ask a lot of questions and consider the dog's temperment when you visit. Orinsky is right -- search the forums. Everything you could want to know or see opinions on is here. Collar for tag, bell and rabies tag and a harness for walks. The bell will be important so you know you baby's underfoot when he/she comes home. Also, if the bell "stops," you can check out what he's into ... or peeing on. :) |
Thank you so much for all the information. She is a very nice lady. I will still be on here for more questions and to post pictures. I am a newbe after all. |
