It really doesn't matter what it is, as long as there is a constant load on the tissues, it will cause a problem over the long term. This is based on my experience of working with dogs everyday with this problem. As I said, some young and some old. It is not a natural state of breathing, when there is reversing sneezing or coughing; doesn't matter; this is an out of balance condition (an indication thereof). Chinese medicine says that any chronic coughing (honk in this case) is "the escape of qi" (qi is energy) That makes sense...because any chronic condition wears away at the natural resources of the body, weather it is a dog or a human.:aimeeyork |

Uno has been having this problem. I really don't know what to do. He gets excited and then honks and I can hear the tissue almost sticking together, and he has a hard time breathing. Poor baby last week had bug eyes because he couldn't get air. The vet said it could be the beginning of a collapsing trachea, so we have steroids for him, but obviously he can't be on those for the rest of his life. He is usually on them for about 3 days at a time, but he still has problems now and then. Has anyone ever dealt with collapsed trachea and how did they take care of it/prevent it/vet opinions/surgery costs- ANYTHING! I would love to know what other owners are doing or have done that works. Uno is only a year old, and he has NEVER had a collar around his neck. He only wears a harness. Please, more thoughts! |

trachea please feel free to ask me anything you want about trachea in yorkies,, i had a yorkie who started his trachea collapse at about 4 years old, he never had a collar on him and just out of the blue it started,,, trachea problems are cumlative,, think of it as a straw, once it has a crack in it its gets worse and worse, I took fife to the best trachea doctor in the world I went to the best 3 one at penn one at cornell and one in california, while stent can be placed in some dogs and infact is costly it cannt be done in all dogs as was the case with fife.,, and the rate of success is also very low, I tried it all, I have about 30 dif meds some worked some didnt i bought the meds from the pawhealer lady also after I found her online,, I tried it all,,, Most yorkies that have a collapsed or collapsing trachea live less than 6 months, so said the world expect in tracheas, fife lived 2 years after his diagnosis, and was doing really great he lived a normal life until the last few weeks, feel freem to pm me or even call me and i can tell you what worked for fife. |
it's reverse sneezing. when I bring my boys onto the bed in the morning (they sleep in their kennel next to the bed), we get to listen to the snort fest. Also when I get home from work, haha. I don't think it's anything to be worried about, my boys do it all the time. |
how much does your dog weigh? and how much pred does your dog take and does your vet ramp him up and down or same dose for the 3 days? Did your vet try other meds first or only suggested the pred,, in my experience pred is the last resort. |
