Yorkie trouble :( :mad:I have had yorkies for the last 20 years. There is just no other dogs as far as I'm concerned. I do have a question. I have a little male that has separation anxiety, and if myself or my husband gets out of his sight he starts howling. He started this after I got very sick and was not at home for about 3 wks. What can I do for him. He sounds so lonesome and sad, I feel so bad for him:aimeeyork Any advice would be helpful.:confused: |
Awww, poor little guy just missed you. I hope you are feeling better. I know this is a silly answer, take him with you. Really, I am sure with a little time, he will be ok. |
My thoughts are that he needs something to keep his mind off you and your husband, so is getting him a little companion something you can do? Yorkies, kitty cats, a bird? |
I take my Coco with me quite a bit, and when I get out of the car to go into a store, etc, she starts to howl too. But only for as long as it takes her to realize that I'm not responding to the howling. Also, the more you repeat the pattern of leaving and returning, the more secure they get that you will return. I make a big deal when I return with lots of affection and maybe a little treat. Hope this helps. Good luck.:) |
Crate training might be a solution. Free in the house a dog with separation anxiety will wonder..look for you.. listen at every little noise. But in the crate, he will be relax and mostly sleep until you come back. |
maybe you can do some type of positive reinforcement training. I would try leaving for short periods of time and returning so he can see you will come back, if he does not howl give him positive reinforcement -treat, praise, etc. Gradually you could extend the length of time your gone. How long has his howling behavior been going on? |
Have you tried leaving a radio or tv on? I give my some chew things and a plush that he abslolutely adores. I find that If I've been playing with him just before leaving makes it worse. Maybe for about 10 minutes before you leave, you go about your routine, "ignoring" him and then leave it may help. Good Luck.:) |
Mine will sit by the shower door and whine while I shower, he whines if I am in another room even if I am talking to him. I have given up on ever going to the bathroom by myself. I am gone all day at work and would think he would be used to being alone. Evidently - this has just made him worse. He's 4 months old. We are leaving him with my parents this weekend for a 5 day trip. I am more worried about him driving my mother crazy than I am about him. Hopefully all will go well. |
