Only 3 toes! Hi there everyone! So I have a puppy Deegan. We have had him for two months, and he is now 4 months. He is the sweetest, best puppy ever. The thing is today we took him to get his nails clipped at a pet store by a vet and she realized that he only has three toes on one of his back feet. This is obviously not normal, so I wrote an email to the breeder to let her know. I am still waiting to hear back. The thing is we are of course completely in love with him and would never trade him for any other dog in the world. I could care less that he has only three toes as long as it doesn't hurt him or affect him in any way. I guess I am just curious if anyone has ever heard of this before and if there is any real danger that it could create to him. He has my heart completely and just want to make sure that this won't create any problems for him. Thanks so much. |
Congratulations. I have never heard of that. Interesting. |
Congratulations!! I really wouldn't worry about this. It's like a cat born with too many toes. So enjoy your wonderful baby! ;) |
I would say there isn't any problems unless you are thinking of showing him or breeding him. Congrats on your new baby! |
I don't think this should be any problem at all, just a small beauty mark. :) |
Just think about Hemingway's 3 toed cats! |
I don't think this will cause any problems. Just makes him unique!:) |
lol 1 less toenail you have to fight to clip lol! |

I wonder if it is a birth defect or maybe the mom accidentally chewed it off during delivery. Can you tell by looking if that might be the case? Some moms can get pretty carried away cleaning up a pup and I have heard of them accidentally injuring a puppy. |
Don't know anything about it but wanted to Congratulations.:) |
Congrats! But as for the 3 toes... I doubt it's a problem at all. Plenty of people are born with too many or too few toes and they're fine! Just fewer toes you have to worry about keeping clean! LOL:) |
I agree, I don't think having 3 toes poses any health issues. Congrats on your new baby! :) |
