Hey are we normal... Hi guys, Please put my family's mind at ease:D Star is our 1st baby, baby. We've had German Shepards before. We're just wondering if it's normal that she weighed 2.1 lbs at 10 weeks, 2.1 lbs at 12 weeks and 2.2 lbs at 14 weeks. She's gained an ounce in about 4 weeks. Is this ok. I guess I'm still remembering our big guys gaining at leaps and bounds. Just wondering. Do yorkies have growth spurts sometimes too. The breeder thought she might be around 5 to 5 1/2 lbs full grown. Just wondering if we're going to make it:p |
If she is eating good I would not worry.. I would say it is normal.... |

I can't remember how much Slade gained wk to wk but as long as your baby is eating and isn't lookng super skinny I would say it was okay. Larger dogs have a lot more to gain from puppy to adult hood than smaller dogs do. Yorkies go from a few ounces to 537 lbs in a year. Shepards go from half a lb or so.. to 80+ lbs in a year, so they will gain more per wk than a small dog would. |
Jake was slow to gain, but he always ate really well and the vet said he was fine, so I didn't worry. As long as your baby is eating good and has the normal puppy energy, she is probably okay. Some gain slower than others and stay smaller. My Jackson gained faster and is bigger, and he seemed to reach his full grown weight much faster than Jake. |

So, how much does Jake and Jackson weigh now? |

Jake is 4 1/2 lbs full grown. When I got him at 10 weeks, he was 1 lb. 10 oz. He gained slowly, and he ended up staying small. Jackson was a little over 2 lbs. when I got him at 10 wks. He is 6 1/2 lbs. now. He's on the bigger side, but I knew he would be. He gained at a quicker rate than Jake, even though they both have always been good eaters. Jackson is 8 mos. old, but he seems to have reached his adult size.....then again, he just might have a last-minute growing spurt, ya never know!:) |
Hot Rod was very slow in putting weight on but he's gotten up to a whopping 3 pds at 8mos. I would just stop by vets office to weigh him and it took forever for him to get to 2 lbs and then he went to 3 really quickly.:)]]Your little one is just taking her sweet time getting bigger. She'll get there before you know it. |
I think it's normal, I acquired Jini at 3 months and now she is 4 months and gained 1 lb already. |
We Love Surprises Thanks guys. This is really going to be fun just to see how little Miss Star grows over time. We love surprises, and so far she has been full of them:p |
Lily did not gain much at that age either, the vet said "let her eat let her eat." At 5 months she started putting on the pounds and now at almost a year she is on a diet. LOL  I was like you told me to let her eat. |
Bella grew very slowly at that time frame, she took a really long time to reach 2lbs, as long as they are eating and not losing weight then I wouldn't worry much. |
as long as she is eating and not losing weight i wouldn't be so concern...good luck! |
