Beach Anyone? I did a search, but was unable to find anything. Does anyone take their yorkie to the beach? I live in Miami, and would love to take my Garrett to the beach with the kids. Can I get some feedback and survival tips please. :animal-pa |
I think it would depend on the beach you go to...Miami beaches are pretty busy, aren't they? I would be afraid someone might steal my baby! Also, if dogs are allowed, then you might possibly run into one that was big and not so friendly towards your little one. There was a post on here recently about someone whose little one got attacked by other large dogs (unleashed and uncontrolled) and the little one was killed. I'm sure there are other opinions....I am only speaking for me and my little Sassy. I just couldn't take the chance. :( |
We routinely vacation down on the outer banks. Ramsey and Reese have both joined us...on the beach. We have a canopy that we put up...and lots of ice water. Both of them love to dig a hole in the sand....this summer baby Reggie will be joining us. Yours will love it....I guarantee it. Have fun!! |
Andy loves the beach. |
1 Attachment(s) We take Britney and Brooklyn with us every year to Dewey Beach, DE. It's great. They love it. If you do take your dog, make sure you check out the rules and regulation of that particular beach. Some beaches only allow dogs during certain hours and/or require a license. |
We live on the shoreline of Lake Michigan (fresh water, I have never been to an ocean beach). There are some places around here that I can take them to private shorelines. There are too many large dogs on the dog beach here that run loose. They just love the water and the sand. I love to watch them experience the first time in the sand, it's about as much fun as the first time in the snow. |
3 Attachment(s) We go to the beach all the time. We just dont stay as long if it is hot hot. We take pleny of water and an umbrella to keep out of the direct sun. There is doggy sunscreen and sunglasses available. The sunscreen is good if they get wet. I take snacks too. she is always so wiped out after the beach! |
The closest beach here doesn't allow dogs, I wish it did, I know Slade would probably love it. Be sure to check on any beach you take your dog to, they all seem to have different rules. Some allow dogs on leash at any time. Some allow dogs off leash when its off season, etc. |
We love walking the girls on the beach, and they love all the sights and smells. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...2-31-07022.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...2-31-07025.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...2-31-07026.jpg |
3 Attachment(s) I found this for you Miami, South Beach, Florida, Beaches ,Caribbean, Pet Tips, Parks that allow Dogs My parents live in Sarasota and we went to a doggy beach in Dec. in Venice, but next time we will be going to a beach in Sarasota that a member on YT told me about. The biggest issue for us, were all the big dogs - no one was aggressive, but some rushed my dogs. Keep your eyes on your dog at all times, if you have more than one, get someone else to walk the shore with you, because my 2 didn't always want to stay together. Fresh water is a good idea. I came with bags, etc. although they were there to be found too Here they were in Venice: |

We Love the Beach All 3 of mine love the Beach......but only one, Artie will swim, surf, ride a boogie board and float on an air mattress with me. Abigail and Tiffany just like to sniff around for dead stinky things and dig alot of holes all over the place. I only take them when it's a Bath Day, luckily we live across the street. I used to live in Orlando, so I used to take Artie to "CoCo Beach" and "Daytona Beach", now we live in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. You should make sure you bring plenty of water and an umbrella so your Baby has some shade to stay cool. Have Fun!:aimeeyork |
Just be careful with the sands on their ears. I got a friend who brought her yorkie to beach and came home with an infected ears because the fine sands get into it. |
I can't wait to take Bernie to the beach! New York beaches of course have very hot sand and very cold water -lol. I'm probably not allowed to even bring him on the beach I'll have to find out. If not there are beach areas where I know I can sneak him onto if even just for a little while. Good luck with bringing your doggy to the beach - take lots of pictures. |

1 Attachment(s) Ginger loves the beach! :D Bernie hasn't decided yet. Just be prepared to wash and wash and wash the sand off. Especially if yours goes swimming. The most fun is when there are some deep tidal pools. At one of our favorite beach destinations the tidal pools are often pretty deep and Ginger loves splashing around in those. I worry MUCH less than when she's braving the waves. |
A yorkie and sand....Oh the hair care nightmares!!!!!! But worth it I am sure. My Rockie (RIP) would have adored the beach. He used to beg us to wet him up with the water hose. |
Its hard to find a beach in Maine that allows dogs. We can bring them to Popham beach off season which I did on a warm day about a month ago, but during the summer the only place to bring them is to a friends right of way to a lake. |
2 Attachment(s) we take chip to the beach al the time, its about a 3 mile walk that we take him on along the beach, he loves it, we stop off half way and me ali and chip get an ice cream each, chip loves it, he plays with a ll the other dogs that are on the beach, we sat for an hour while he played with a toy poodle the other month, although the dogs arent alowed on the beach from may1st til sept 1st :( which is when we wanna go, but we have two beaches here so will have to go to the rubbish one, there was one time we spoke to someone who warned us about a man with a brown staffie (we have a lot of council estate people where i live google "chav" and ull see them, they all have these dogs) and apparently he is a really unsociable dog, but other than that all the dogs we have met are all friendly hope ur kewl neil and ali |
