I need help big time guys my pixie is sad and afraid last night was the first night that pixie and i stayed at our new apartment. it went well till i left this morning to go to work. She freaked out and barked like crazy. It was a bark of fear and wanted me back. She never got like that and i was surprised. The thing is that there are no pets allowed in the building but i felt it would be ok because ive see a couple of big dogs in the building and cats. pixie is 3 pounds. they cant kick me out right ? will she stop soon? what can I do? I dont think they can kick me out because of all the pets ive seen but if she doesnt stop after a while i think it would be a problem. I stood in front of the the building waiting till she stop and she did but i dont know if she started up again. plus it was 6 in the morning and all you heard was her. help please any ideas i cant close the windows and keep the tv on that dangerous and i cant keep her in my bedroom because i have a ton of cables. |
It really depends on exactly what the rules are, but they CAN kick you out if they're strict about it. You could always say you're watching Pixie for a friend if someone asks. If there's any space you can keep her where you can puppy proof it (Like a bathroom), I would suggest that. And if you have an old sweatshirt or something that smells like you, it will help with the stress. Also, an AM or FM radio would probably help if you don't want to leave the TV on. Changes are hard on puppies, so I'm sure she'll get used to your new place. :) |
What about an xpen for your bedroom? that way she will be safe and try giving her a treat when you leave (for a trick that she knows)...I give dingo chicken jerky, but unforunately it doesn't seem to work well anymore :( as he knows it's a sign that I am leaving (or so it seems)...do you get to go home on lunch at least? |
The first day is going to be the hardest, but as soon as she realizes that you are coming back for her, she won't be bothered being alone. She'll end up sleeping all day. It might make it easier the first week or so if you can play with her and tire her out a bit before you go to work. Throw a frisbee around your apartment or play tug-o-war with her for a while. This is new to her, and she is unsure if you'll be back or not at this point. When she gets over that, things will be fine. And, if you think she is still lonely after a while, you could always get another yorkie so she won't be alone! LOL! Let us know how she reacts when you get home. You'll probably get lots of extra kisses tonight! |
What about implementing a DAP (Dog Appeasing Phermone) Diffuser. It's supposed to keep your puppy "happy" or well-adjusted while you are gone. http://www.healthypets.com/dapdogappher.html You can read more about it here. I've never tried it, but at the 1st sign of anxiety, when we leave for work, I will. |
