Ticks Ticks Ticks, ERRRRRRRRRRR! TICKS, Oh how I HATE these nasty little creatures. :thumbdown  I was getting ready to give the babies a bath and I was trimming ears and found two ticks on Trixie's head. :( Both of them were right by each other and close to her ear. They probably got on her a couple days ago when we were at the park. I feel so bad now and she was crying when I was trying to get them out. :( I don't know what to do. I checked all the babies but those things are so tiny and with all the hair its pratically impossible to see them. Does anyone know of anything that I can put on the babies to help keep these things off them? I feel so nasty right now and itchy. I HATES BUGS!! Thanks for letting me vent and any help is appreciated!! |
I thought Revolution and Frontline repelled them but im not sure. WHat do you use for flea protection? |
I hear you! We moved to this house last fall and it's right near the woods. EVERY time Tucker went out he picked up a tick and it was making me crazy. I bought him a flea collar. (They make them for puppies, which would probably be good for a little one. Tucker is over 12 pounds). Anyway, I never believed they worked, but I'm telling you he went from 2 or 3 ticks a DAY to not having had a single tick in weeks. And he has had no problem with the collar, no irritation or anything. It's worked a miracle for us. |

In the past I've used Frontline and Revolution. However, I read so much stuff about them being more harmful to our pets and I stopped using them. My vet said they work great for fleas but with ticks they are basically useless. They don't prevent them from biting our babies. I'm sorry but I can't remember exactly what she said to me. I only stopped using the products late last summer and I have no idea what to do about this summer. The main reason I used anything was for fleas, so I'm also very concerned about that. I'll go crazy if I find a flea. I just don'tknow what to do. I'm scared of those products but I can't have fleas on my babies and these ticks are about ready to give me a heart attack. I'm so confused. :( |

Hey everyone, a very nice member just sent me this link. :) Chinaroad Lowchens of Australia - Ticks, fleas, bees, flies, snakes and other gremlins! And how to deal with them! I plan to try the Tropical Treatment. :D |
In my experience there is very little that will keep ticks off. I go over mine whenever we go anywhere they are likely to pick some up. I don't use anything for fleas even though I know there are some things that work but I'd rather not put those poisons into their bodies. I used a topical one time and 2 of mine had severe reactions to it. Never again. I don't know what I will do if I ever have a problem. Good luck and let me know if you find anything non toxic that works |

Awe, poor babies. I hope you can get them all off. My late Grandfather used to say to put cokking oil on the ticks back, they breath through their back and once you put oil on them, they start backing out and letting go on their own. I use Advantage on our furbutts here, have never had problems with ticks. |

I have decided to no longer use any of the topical treatments---they get ticks anyway. We are treating the yard with Perma-Guard Fossil Shell Flour/Diatomaceous Earth - (Feed Grade), tonight and I will dust the fur creatures once a week with it as well. I am done with the chemicals that are doing nothing. |

I am having the same problem!!! I check Lily everyday when I brush her and when I find them I am just freaked out! I also do not want to use any of the preventative because of all the stuff I heard. Thanks so much for posting that link!!! I am going to try one of the homemade remedies |
I also have stop using all chemicals including vaccinations on Maggie about 11 years ago. She's 15.5 and super healthy. So I think for us its worked. We live in so california and have a ton of flees and but no ticks. I rub a little citronella oil on my hands and lightly rub it on her. I dont use much because its so strong and I dont want it to bother her. So far no fleas or bug bites. |

This is the first time using it here at the house where we currently are as the ticks are so prevelant this year. Darn soft winters.:( |
i just put frontline plus on Callie after she came inside with a tick next to her nose the other day and its supposed to keep them off of her I would suggest that sense its the kinda weather they are going to be coming back out. |
Thanks for the link......I am going to give it try:thumbup:, we live on 5 acres and have really had a time with ticks already this year and it has only just began. I haven't seen a lot of fleas. My Cavaliers have been getting ticks and I hate the gross things........ Quote:

Oh yuck! I hate ticks and fleas! My husband uses something outside in the spring/summer which helps to keep lots of different bugs away, and it has worked great! I have never seen a flea or tick on my boys, and we have woods behind our house. I wish I could remember the name of it, but I can't and hubby is sleeping. If you go to your local garden center and ask about it, they will know what to recommend. The one we use is safe for pets. |
I was told that not only does this product work for fleas but its main function was for warding off Heartworm??///....Now I am Confused .... |

A friend of mine told me about this awhile back, but I couldn't find it locally...we normally keep stuff on the yard, but we are ALWAYS looking for all-natural and harmless alternatives. |
