Hind site I wish we would have found this site before we got our Gracie. Unfortunately we didn't. We now have a yorkie that is AKC but no where near standards. Our funds were real tight when we purchased her. With the things we know now I would have never purchased her. We love her death but my daughter really wanted one she could show in AKC. She can still show just not for conformation. When we called to inquire about her they told us the price and we said we would get back with them. They called us a week later and said if we wanted her that they would give us a lower price and if we did not take her they were going to take her downstate to sell at a pet store. I did not want that to happen. We saw her mom, dad, aunt and grandma, so thought that we were doing good. He told us her mom was 8 pounds and dad was little smaller. I did not know the difference we have only had big dogs. Gracie is now 11 lbs. and longer and taller than a normal yorkie. :( Then we have heard from other people that have his pups that some have got up to 15lbs. or so.:shocked7q We wanted a small dog that you can carry in bag but, oh well we will know what to look for in the future when we get another puppy. I just do not understand how the can advertise them AKC when the do not meet standard. We just have to make it past the first year and half or so as it seems the most trying with puppies. Thanks for reading this long this post. |
Unfortunately being AKC registered does not guarantee bred to the standard...anyone with an AKC dogs can breed and register the puppies..regardless if the sire or dam are good representations of the breed. I don't know how old your puppy was when you purchased her...but it's impossible to tell if they will be show quality until they are older...6 months or more. On size...it's all genetics and much more than just the sire and dam sizes. |
She was 12 weeks when we got her. This is a learning experiene for us. Next time we will definately know what we are looking for. |

My first Yorkie is a WONDERFUL 16 lb. pkg of JOY! This boy is the greatest, sweetest, and most fun dog ever! I would trade my "mistake" for anything in the world! dont get me wrong, I got another baby after him and she is a precious little 5 lb. bundle herself! Now I have the best of both worlds! OH, WELCOME TO THE "TEAPOT CLUB"..... You sound like you love your girl... enjoy her! d |
Thank you. We do. She is precious. I just hope we can learn this recall thing. She is getting to adventurous. |
I have two males, Jake is 4 1/2 lbs. and Jackson is 6 1/2 lbs. I gotta tell you, the bigger ones are so much easier to look after in my opinion. I have to be really careful with Jake because he's very tiny. I was fortunate enough to find YT before I bought my yorkies. I learned so much here, and it made it alota easier to know what to watch out for when purchasing my boys. |
I have also learned a lot in hindsight after joining YT. I think about where my first yorkie came from and get the chills. After being here a while I have been a voice to my friends and family about this breed and feel I have helped so many avoid bad situations, and not only with yorkies, other breeds too! being here and having access to such a wealth of knowledge is such a great tool. I will never take it for granted. Sorry that you had to go through a bad experience, but now you can be a voice to help others in your same situation! |
I also have a mistake of not checking website for standards with my yorkie. My furbaby looks like a morkie but what the heck, I still love her. :) |

Can you post a picture of her?:) |
I can't figure ou how to do the pictures. It says they are to big. |
If you are still tossing around the idea of getting a show quality Yorkie, then, in the future, I would go with a reputable YTCA breeder. But congrats on your "teapot"!!LOL They make wonderful pets and are just more to love!!!! |
Sorry for your bad experience. We got our first before joining YT and I still feel really bad when I think of what conditions he may have been in before we got him-a pet store. Fortunately, he healthy and wonderful! He is on the small side however, 3 lbs @ almost 8 mos. but FULL of personality.:) |
I am thankful Gracie. It has been an awesome experience. Never knew they had so much personality. She is health though so that is definately a praise. |
