Help Needed - Rid of sour smell on couch
 
I am not domestic, and I need help. Last week Murphy got sick on my couch. I cleaned it up right away with upholstery cleaner. The next day there was a sour smell. Since then I have cleaned the couch twice with the attachment on my rug shampooer. I also sprayed Fabreze a few times. My couch still has a sour smell. It is a recliner couch so I cannot remove the cushion. At the time Murphy was eating Nature's Variety-beef. Since then I have switched back to Candidae. (That's another story!)
Any suggestions! Thanks in advance.

Simple Solution. Let it soak and then suck it out with your cleaner attachment. This is why I got microfiber :-) I can take the whole cover off and soak the thing in Simple Solution. I even washed it in the washing machine. Good luck!!!!

Did you use any type of enzyme cleaner?

The cleaner I use in the rug shampooer has an enzyme in it. I cleaned it twice with the cleaner. Any suggestions on a good cleaner?

Maybe it's time to call in the professionals...

Years ago my Mickey pee'd on my sofa (the cushions also aren't removeable)... I tried everything... and I have a "real sensitive" sense of smell....

I had a professional cleaning company come in... and "no more smell".

We had to do carpets due to cat pee (the WORST!). If you really read the directions on enzyme cleaners, you have to follow them to a "T". The enzymes need time and the right environment to work. If they dry out, the enzymes die leaving the problem. So the area should be saturated and kept wet and oxygen-free by using wet towels, etc. for at least 24 hours; more if necessary.

Not sure if your recliner will be okay being kept wet. If it can't, I would say it's going to take several applications to accomplish the same thing.

Good luck - gotta love a sour recliner! :mad:

I didn't have a choice when I bought this couch. A few years ago I moved to an apartment in an old farm house. My old couch would not fit through the door. I had to buy a couch that came in pieces. Now that I bought a house, a new couch is not in my budget at the moment. I did have it treated for stains, but I'm sure it wore off a long time ago.

I'm trying to avoid this, but will do it if nothing else works.
