In heat, but will not tie up What do I do? She first went into heat at 10 mos and total she's had 3 cycles and she will not take a male... What's going on? Also her heat cycle is weird... 10 mos old then 9 mos later then 6 mos later and it is 6 mos later again with no heat cycle... possibly in 3 more mos... ????? Any suggestions are welcome... |
You would get a lot more response if you posted this in the breeder section but I will answer the best I can. Not all female yorkies are real regular with their heat cycles. They usually have their first heat between 8 and 12 months. After that the females can come in heat every 6 to 12 months. Most of mine come in every 7 or 8 months. As for her not taking a male, what do you mean? Is the male unable to tie her or is she refusing to stand for the male? How much does your female weigh? I need a little more information to know what is going on..thanks. |
won't tie up I didn't realize there was a breeder section... must have overlooked it. Anyway, she will not stand still. She growls and barks at him. She weighs about 7 lbs. We have tried her with small and bigger yorkie males. I took her to the lady I bought her from and used one of her "well-used" studs. LOL So, we know that it isn't him with the problem. |
:welcome4: First, I want to welcome you to Yorkie Talk. You will find so much information here. We do have a wonderful breeders section. To be honest, some females are very difficult to breed. She may just be scared. You may have to hold her firmly still and let the male mount her but sometimes that does not work if she is growling and snapping. The only other thing would be to muzzle her and hold her by the shoulders while the male breeds her. I have had some females that wanted nothing to do with the male and I know they would were ready because they would be flagging but they would get scared when the male mounts them. On a few occasions I have had to muzzle a virgin female and once the first tie is accomplished the female would do just fine. |
won't tie up Thank you so much for the advice. I found the breeder section and also posted it there. I may have to hold her next time. Once again, thanks! |
