Cleaning puppies face hair... Chewie's face hair needs to be washed but I'm afraid to use puppy shampoo there even though it says it's tear-free. Am I just being a scaredy-cat or should I not shampoo his face? This is obviously going to end up getting water in his face to rinse it all out. Is that ok? Thanks for everyone's advise in advance! |
When I need to wash Itsy's face I just use a damp washcloth to wet the hair on her face, then put a little dab of tearless puppy shampoo on the washcloth and carefully rub the fur under her eyes to get the yuckies out, then use a clean portion of the cloth to re-soak with water to rinse the soap. She doesn't seem to mind much when I do it, and it definitely helps as a refresher between baths. |

I use tear less shampoo for the face. I just dump water over his face a couple times to rinse. I will usually use a cup so it's easier. At first they hate it, but they'll get used to it. This is how I've always bathed dogs (so does my mom) and it's never been a problem. My mom's yorkie actually kinda likes it... but he's weird lol. When the water runs over their face, they naturally close their eyes like you would in the shower. Obviously be cautious when rubbing shampoo on the face; I use my fingers to rub it on the sides of his nose. Oh, and I push his ears down when I pour the water so that I don't pour water in his ears. |

Well, I got brave last night and washed his face. First I used a warm, damp cloth to loosen up the eye boogers and just picked them out of his hair. They seemed to slide right out after the area was wet. I give him a bath in the kitchen sink so I can use the sprayer thing. He seemed to like it...just sat there like a good boy. I put a little shampoo on my fingers and rubbed each side of the muzzle area, under his chin and the top of his head. With the sprayer on low, not super jet stream high...washed it all out. The washed the rest of him. Now he's all fluffy and he looks much happier. |
I use the warm wash cloth and tearless shampoo and in between use baby wipes. |
