Yorkie Wondering Around By Himself!!! Today my hubby and I were driving and suddenly on a very busy intersection we saw a:aimeeyork Yorkie wondering around by himself!!!:2omg: I couldn't believe my eyes, what!!! We stopped , approached him and picked him up!!! Even though I had him in my arms, I couldn't believe how someone would allow this precious baby out of their sight... He was so friendly, and enjoying all the love I was giving him... He was wet, full of dirt and debris and his coat smelled like urine, also I could feel all his little bones, he felt really underweight for his size... You could tell the owners of this pup didn't feel the way I feel for my babies... Unfortunately he had a collar with a tag, his phone and address on it... I was so upset to see this precious pup in those conditions... I really wanted to take him home with me and give him extra special attention that he deserved... But we put ourselves in their shoes, and hoped that if we were ever in their situation, we would get our baby back...We drove around for like 2 hrs looking for this pups house... I am really good with addresses, but for some reason I couldn't coordinate myself to find this address... We called the owner and she didn't have the audacity to get in her car and try to meet me, or arrange to pick him up...Finally we found his home and when we got there, she tells me, Oh, he's escaped so many times before and people always return him... I couldn't believe that after so many episodes of the same behavior, she wouldn't pay more mind to her pup... It's been killing me inside all day today!!! Did I do the right thing after all...Deep inside I know I did... But my mind keeps haunting me... :cry8:Very Sad, Andrea |
That is so sad :( Was the woman even excited to see her baby? Did she want the baby back? You did do the right thing although it must have been so hard for you. Maybe if she is having so many problems with this baby who is obviously starved for attention you could call her back and tell her that Im sure someone from here (or you Im not sure) could take in and provide a better life. I wouldnt necessarily say better life to her, but do you think she'd be willing to rehome? The baby sure deserves it IMO.....some people just irk me because I think dog ownership is a priveledge and not all people are deserving of that priveledge :( |
I think, with my temperment (which is quick to flare at times), when the lady wouldn't even get in her car to come get her little guy, he would have had a new home with me. But you did the right thing, and even though you may question yourself, the Lord won't. And He will bless you for it. Maybe you could call the lady and see if she wishes to rehome him? |
How sad :( I'd be going crazy worrying and probably be hysterical is my dog was missing! |
You are very kind Andrea and you did the right thing! I cannot believe that lady wouldn't even meet you to pick up her baby though!!! I know if we ever lost Xavier; I would be so grateful if someone was kind enough to call and agree to even let me pick my baby from somewhere 100 miles away! I hope she knows how much of a blessing you were! :big_hug: your way! Don't worry; sounds like God's watching out for that little guy. |
You know, I've been thinking about it all day... But she has a mentally challenged son, and she told me the dog belongs to him... I know they don't give him the attention that he requires, they just have him to please their son... I let her know that I didn't want to return him, but I just needed to do the right thing...She gave him a few kisses, that was it... But if it were me, I'd be jumping, hugging, screaming for joy, running around like a maniac, thanking the lord, you know...But let me tell you one thing, I will be driving by there... If I see him again, wondering unattended, I WILL NOT RETURN HIM!!! I just gave them one last chance... She doesn't realize what a gift I gave her by returning her CHIKI!!! The lord put him in my path, because he knows how much love and attention I would've given him, thats how I've felt about this situation...But my hubby convinced me thats what we should do... After we left her house I cried:cry8: like a kid... I was so confused, upset and in disbelief...I'm a true believer of what you said..."Dog ownership is a privilege" |
You did the right thing, as hard as it was.:( If you are worried, I would call on the person again, or if you can remember the phone number or address, give them a call or drop them aline and say.... If your dog ever becomes too much for you or you want a home for it, I would take it..... Even if you did not keep it you could always find it a loving home. She just might give the little thing up.:aimeeyork To me Tink is not just a dog, she is my little girl and now I have her I would do anything for her. I think everyone should feel this way before taking on a dog....so many are taking these little dogs on as a fashion accessory and not for the love of them...ggggrrrrr........ok sorry...rant over! |
I have been in a similar situation. I don't think you did anything wrong, and there is not much more you could have done. You can't keep lost kids when you find them, can you? |
As difficult as it was, you did the right thing since the dog did belong to someone else. But I would call and ask her if you could take care of the dog for her. |
we were in a similiar situation before. but there were two shelties wandering around in the rain. Seeing as we already had one, and my mom loves the breed, we had to pick them up. we brought them home and bathed them, fed them, and played with them. neither dog had a collar or tags. We called every vet in the area, and put ads in the paper. no one claimed these two gorgeous, friendly dogs. So we took them on as our own, little did we know the female of the pair was pregnant. so then we ended up with even more shelties! we had 5 dogs, until my grace passed yesterday, 4 shelties and my little yorkie baby Sophie. |
Years ago I found a yorkie wandering around my neighborhood. Her hair was all matted and she had burs stuck under the mats, and she smelled. I cut off the matted hair and gave her a bath. We posted a sign in our sub-division saying we had found her. I went to the store and when I got back my daughter said the people on the next block came and got her. The condition she was in I thought she must have been lost for months, but come to find out she had gotten out that morning. They commented how nice she looked and they had been meaning to take her to the groomers. If I had known she had just gotten lose and thats how they took care of her I don't know if I would have posted the sign. |
Oh wow, this is so sad. I feel so sorry for that dog. :( |
:yeahthat: I totally agree. Call her! That makes me so sad, but you had to do the right thing...if it happens again, I'd report it to the animal control authorities in your area & see aht they say about adopting it if the owner doesn't come & claim it!! Quote:

When you're a dog lover and you are faced with situations like these, it is so hard to comprehend how anyone would abuse these babies that way... Because to me it is abuse... No other way to put it... But the fact that he had a collar with address and phone, made it so much more difficult for me... I could've taken it off, but how do I live with myself by doing such thing... The pups that were wondering with no identification were blessed to have had run in to such caring people... You changed their lives... I wish I could've changed CHIKI's life... |
I'm sorry. :( You really did do the right thing. Hey...if you remember the phone number or anything...just give them a call...let them know that if Chiki ever becomes to much for them or whatever, then you'd be happy to take him. Or if you see him wandering again... It reminds me of a couple months ago what happened to me. I was at my aunt's house babysitting my cousin, and this beagle wandered into the front yard. She was in good condition, friendly, etc., but she had no identification. I did everything I could (while still needing to be responsible for and watch my cousin) to find this dog's home while I was at my aunt's house. I called every shelter, vet, etc., I could find. I took her around to 2 of the neighbor's houses asking if they recognized her. I put her in the backyard and waited until my family got home to go out with her to find her owner. I got to this one house, and the woman told me the dog's name was Angel and she lived next door, "but she hates it there." I took 'Angel' next door, and when the woman answered the door I asked her "is this your dog?" and she just went "yeah, thanks." and took her inside. She said her kids were wondering where she was. I was like...OMG...your dog has been missing for like 6 hours. No one was even out looking for her. I had a yorkie, Maddie, who ran away twice. Both times we had hundreds of fliers out within an hour. I don't understand how people can just...not worry...when their dogs are lost. |
