Traveling to France with your Yorkie... Hello everyone!!! I would love to travel to Paris this June, and I'm going to take Angie with me because I don't trust anyone to take care of her. We'll be in Paris for two or three weeks staying in a friend's home. Has anyone travelled with their yorkies to Paris? to another country in Europe? Can you give me any advise? :aimeeyork Thank you :) |
I haven't traveled to Europe with my Yorkie. However, I understand that pets are more welcome just about everywhere in France, including restaurants. Have fun! I hope the flight won't be too long. That could be uncomfortable for your little one. |
thats a very long flight... I just got back from Paris in Jan. again & I honestly didn't even consider bringing Roxi because I thought it would be too hard on her.. It's really hard on me when I go to Europe!!! But if you have no other options I guess you would have to take her, but honestly, I don't think it's the greatest idea.. That's just my opinion. And you can have dogs on SOME of the patios of restaurants, but not all..... It's just a lot for a little one to take... |
Thank you for your advise... I need to take her with me because the only person who can take care of her (my mother) is also traveling with me. I don't want to leave her in a kennel. I think she'll sad there, and I'll be worried about her. |

This is a great thread! I'm interested in hearing everyone's answers and advice. I'll be studying abroad in France and I would LOVE to take Franklin and Maggie with me.. |
We flew back from Japan (a long flight!) and the woman in front of us had her little yorkie out in the seat next to her for the entire flight (Business class). You're leaving from the east coast, and could stop in London, before heading to Paris which would break up the trip and make it not much more than coast to coast. We also know someone who took their Yorkie to Hawaii. That is a 5 hr. ride over and 6 hrs. back. So it can be done. Pee pad train her so that she can relieve herself on the plane (in the bathroom). That would seem to be the biggest problem. As long as she is used to being quiet for several hours I think she can make it. And WHAT FUN to travel with your baby!! Do your homework and have a great time... :animal36 |
I fly with Gracie coast to coast all the time. She does great and seems to enjoy flying. I think the vibration on the floor of the plane puts her to sleep as she sleeps the entire way. She's pee-pad trained anyway but I can't ever get her to use it until we get to the hotel. I think mainly she just likes being with me -- and vice versa. |
Than you all for your help  :aimeeyork |
Never traveled with a Yorkie but I've been to France and the flight is pretty long. I'd just make sure to get a comfy travel bag lots of water, and supplies. |
When my Sister she is from Germany comes every year and visit's use she bring's her 2 Yorkies with her . She got them hear in the States . You just have to check with your Vet. and he can give you some Pilles and your baby will sleep most of the time .Your Baby will be well rested but you will not .;) |
Lucy has travelled internationally twice already and she did wonderfully-one flight was 8 hours direct and one was a 12 hour travel day. I do agree that you should take pee pads so you can take her to the bathroom during the flight. We are bringing Lucy to Italy with us this summer. |

I do nothing special before the flight except to make sure she's had her breakfast and a good drink. She travels in the car very well, even on long rides, and the vet didn't think she needed anything to sedate her. She does great just on her own. |

pls tell me what size of cage set under the seat is required by airlines. I live in France myself but I have never brought any of my yorks for travel by air. I deeply consider so and therefore I read a lot on the regulations of airlines about this. The one I learned is that we need to keep the york in a cage and if we wish to bring the york (only under 2 Kg) with us in the cabin of passenger, that is my case because I won't be willing to leave the york in the cargo cabin, however, a cage is required and it must be small enough to put under the seat of the passenger. Could anyone tell me the size of the cage please? Or we just only have to put the york in a bag, that's enough. I know all the airlines setting their own different rules, I would love to share the experience of yours. Thanks you. |
