Do you think this will work???? Pepper has fits at her brothers at times, she just barks and barks, tried to distract her with loud noises, cesar's psst noise, pulling her away from the window ect... nothing seems to work when she gets going. so anyway had a thought, what about the silent dog whistle??? I picked one up at petco in okc yesterday and we will see if it breaks her out of her barking fits. has anyone else used one of these and did it work???? |
I've never used the whistle so I don't know how well it would work. With Ruby and Reno I've used the water bottle method and it has been very effective in stopping unwanted barking. In fact now, I don't usually have to even spray them, just make the "uh-huh" noise and they stop barking. It took only a couple of times spraying too, before they learned. |
I use ice on ice for in-between bath grooming and she already is skittish about that, wouldn't that make her more afraid of liquid spraying from a bottle? I tried the whistle earlier to "tune" it to her and it defintly got her attention. I guess we will see. The can of pennies doesn't work cause she can't hear it over her barking. I swear she acts like if she could get ahold of them she would rip out their throats, good thing they are bigger and more tolerant, They just jump up on their dog houses (where she can't get and wait her out which just makes her more mad:):)) I think she got the great-great-great grandfathers rotwiler gene. |
I use Crown Royale finishing spray on my two, so I do understand what you're saying about the confusion with two sprays. But, the water bottle is turned to more of a jet type spray than a fine mist spray like the Crown Royale. As long as you use the verbal command along with the spray they will know the difference.....at least my two do. But if the whistle works - hey, go for it!:) LOL...."great-great-great grandfathers rotwiler gene" |
Maybe a tin can with coins in it? |

I sympathize with your dilemma - mine are very similar and nothing seems to work at my end either... |
I've used it a couple of times now when she is having a "fit" and it grabs her attention and she stopped barking, then I tell her to "hush". so far so good but she is a bit stubborn. I have the oddest yorkie, she would rather be outside, whether it is cold or raining or whatever. she doesn't shiver unless I give her a bath in fact I think she sweats more often than not, she's a monster at 9 lbs at 6 months, and no prob with hypoglycemia here. she's just weird(like her mom) |
i use the water spray bottle too. and now all i have to do is reach for the bottle...and immediate silence! lol he turns around at me like "ok ok ok ok ill stop just dont spray!" its kinda cute! |
