Petsmart Pet Hotel!! I just got news that my grandmother won't let me bring Riley with me when I go to Alabama. I would let him stay with my boyfriend's parents, but I don't trust them. Lol. I came across the Petsmart Pet Hotel and it looks REALLY interesting. I think I would feel alot better if Riley was there with people who knew about animals. Anyway, has anyone heard about this? I did a search, but didn't find that much info on it.:) TIA! |
no I haven't.. but i think I would sooner leave mine with a vet that I trusted...I hate it when we cannot take our babies.. maybe you should be saying.. if the dog cannot come.. then I do not neither...what can a yorkie do to bother some one....:eek: anne |

I didn't know we could leave animals with vets?? I wonder how much it costs. I'm going to call about that Monday. |
I've left my Maximus, who is still a puppy, at our local Petsmart Pets Hotel. He has stayed there overnight once, and for doggie day care for a day. I appreciated that they had workers who genuinely loved dogs. Also, I felt comfortable that all doggie guests were under surveillance 24 hours (they have someone walk by all the rooms every hour), and they have a vet's office in this store so they have an emergency vet at the store at all hours. They get about 2-3 'walks' a day, which is pretty much letting them out in a play room until they go potty. You can also add on for an extra fee extra play time, and doggie day camp where they play with other dogs throughout the day. You can also call anytime to check on your baby, and they even let you call to talk to him so that he can hear your voice :) Overall I was very satisfied with his experience. Maximus can't participate in day camp b/c he's not neutered yet, but all the workers seemed so kind and enjoyed playing with him. However, I would strongly suggest visiting the pets hotel in person and meeting with some of the workers at the hotel. As with any other big name chain, the quality and standards of each location can vary. Sometimes you can find reviews for your location's petsmart online - on yahoo or other search engines. I hope that helps! |

Thanks! I am definitely going to have a meeting so I can tour the place and ask tons of questions. How much did it cost for you anyway? I'm not going out of town till July, but I'm going to start planning early. |

I actually looked into a pets hotel in the Chicago area! (I visit my parents there). However, I heard mixed reviews about the Evanston location. Here is a link: PetsHotel at PetSmart - Evanston, IL 60202 Perhaps you can look into a pets hotel, or other boarding facility, in the city where your grandmother is? That way you can always stop by and see how your baby is doing - which may ease any of your anxieties. However, I'm sure there are many other boarding facilities in Chicago. 24 hour surveillance was very important to me, and not many places have people present round the clock so that's why I went with the Pets Hotel. |

ah yes - flying is expensive with our yorkies! Thankfully I'm in driving distance from Chicago--will actually be driving down next week to introduce Maximus to his grandparents (my parents!) :) try doing a pet boarding search in Chicago through google or yahoo yellow pages -I'm sure you'll find other options as well. |
Where in Alabama is it? Maybe a YT'er can help you out. I'm in MS but its not too far from AL. Or maybe a YT member in Chicago could watch him for you. |
Pet Hotel in Whittier, Ca When we went on a cruise our Gertie, our pom/chi, stayed at the Pets Hotel. It was great! The staff is very attentive and you have a choice of different lodging for your babies. They can even get a suite with a tv. I called Gertie while on the cruise and they put her in the Bone Booth and she was able to hear my voice. It was a great exerience. We now have Molly, our bassett hound and Chunk, our blind yorkie. I don't think I would leave Chunk anywhere other than my adult children. Since Chunk's diagonoises we've purchased a trailer and now all the babies go with us. My husband says with our 3 babies our cruisin days are over. Our babies love camping. A righteous man regards the life of his animal.... Proverbs 12:10 |
I leave Kimchee at the day care once a month (a day out just for me and my husband). Kimchee is excited to go there since I know he likes the people there who play with him. I pay extra for personal play time (30 mins), and I don't let Kimchee play in the doggie day camp in which he was bitten by a fox terrier when he was younger one time. So everytime when we check him in, we will make sure a stamp says 'Individual' is placed on the check in sheet. He always comes home happy. I used to leave him at a vet in which they have boarding service. I found that Kimchee was very stressed out every time I picked him up, so I use PetsHotel's service. Last summer I went back to Toronto, Canada to visit my parents, so my husband left him for day care every day for 7 days. Kimchee actually made some human friends there and he would run to his friend before my husband took him into the petshotel to check in. This is the petshotel that is closer to my husband's office (not the one we usually leave him once a month), so I am sure personnel is an important factor to make your baby feels happy about the stay. Last Christmas we left Kimchee for 6 days overnight since we went for vacation. Kimchee looked happy when we picked him up. However, they did not clean his eyes' poop poop which I specially requested; it made me a little bit unhappy about their service. However, other than that special requrest, I would say they did a good job in taking good care of my baby. My advice is pay a bit extra for a personal one-on-one play time so that your baby can have some individual attention and stay away from the doggie day camp which comes with the day care/overnight stay (they mix big and small dogs together). |
This is just IMO. I have had horrible experiences boarding my furbabies at the vet. On weekends my vet only takes the doggies out twice---early in the morning and at 5:00 p.m. They are left to hold it from 5:00 p.m. until the morning. Now is that reasonable? I think not. The trips outside are the only time there is interaction between humans and doggies. The last time I boarded at a vet my Pommie died. She had congestive heart failure but was doing just great on the meds she was on. From what they told my husband, (I was in MS at my father's funeral) Cassie was stressed, started coughing a great deal (sign of congestive heart failure), and died in 16 hrs. from the time I dropped her off. Didn't increase her meds, didn't give anything to reduce stress, just let her die. It's been two years and I am still upset about the entire deal. I adopted a white rescue Pommie, Snowboy, in honor of my Cassie. |

Alabama Trip Funny!! My mom lives in Alabama and when I got my puppy at the end of Feb. I was planning to go and see my mom for Easter in late March. I called to tell her I got him and the first thing out of her mouth was you can't bring him. Once I explained that he doesn't shed or smell and is hypo allergenic, so he wouldn't bother her, after about a day she settled down. I also just said that I would call my aunt or uncle and just stay with them, no problem. She didn't want that so she gave in. By the second day I was there she was in love with Emilio and didn't want me to take him home!!!! Once people see them they can't help but fall in love. I would just keep telling her that you can't afford to stay in a hotel and that he/she is too small to board yet. See how that goes over. Also, send her lots of pictures of the puppy being cute!! |
i checked out our local petsmart hotel and i thought it was nice. the only thing i didn't like was they wouldn't allow romeo to participate in "group play". grrrrrrr |

Actually I live in tuscaloosa and if you staying in this area you are more then welcom to let him stay with us when you can't keep him on you. I love being a babysitter! Lol but seriously if it helps I'm here. |
We recently had our girls - Magic and Sailor - stay at the Petsmart Pet Hotel in Arlington, Texas for 4 days. We were very pleased....the girls did two days in the doggie day care and the other two days they did playtime twice a day. When we picked up the girls, they did not seemed stressed. They were very nice about us calling to check on them and had everything ready and their beds even washed when we picked them up. We went out and visited this location two times prior to leaving them and found them willing to take us completely through their facility. (We did this once during the week and once on the weekend each about two months apart.) |
Just a thought There are a lot of out there...who are we? Pet Sitters. Honestly I will never board my dog at a kennel again. I think I have experienced every possible hardship in doing this. Check out Care.com and see if you can find a local pet sitter. Many of us will house your dogs in our homes just like they are part of the family or we can come stay in your home and take care of your baby, just like you do. It's a great alternative. My sister and I have a business in Pa you can check it out on No Place Like Home Pet Sitters and get an idea of what to look for in a caretaker, I think you'd be much happier doing this than a pet hotel. Please consider it...it's a much more personal experience for your baby. |
Honestly, it would have to be an emergency for me to ever consdier this for Ellie. I'm sure most of the staff is great at most of the locations but there has been at least one report of abuse and a few of the groomers at Petsmart aren't very nice with the animals. Your location might be fine but a few aren't... Also, usually boarding facilities take the dogs out about three times a day. Yorkies have very small bladders and that is not really healthy if they have problems holding it. |
I've heard good and bad things about the PS hotel. I guess it really all depends on the quality of the staff in your location. Don't you have a friend he can stay w/ while you are out of town (thats what I always do with Slade) Our groomer and vet board as well, so I would pick those over PS hotel. |

Ya know whats sad......even evil murdering felons get more time outside then what a kennel provides for your best friend who loves you....think about that. Sad, huh?' |
