TO GROOM or not TO GROOM?? Hello, I have spoken to a few people here... NOw I need to ask this ? to everyone. Should I go in debt $8000.00 to open my own groom shop in my hometown? Do you think... I can bring in $4000.00 a month grooming? or is it hit and miss. Can i make a living? or should this be side job?? I need this to work if i jump. Feedback ? thanks |
OK....... 1) how big is your town? 2) What would you charge? 3) What else would you offer? 4) What would your avg. charge be and how many dogs (or items) would you need to groom/sell to make the $4000.00 a month? 5) Why would you have such a large "nut" to make so soon? |
I'm from California, so $8000 sounds like it is reasonable to start a business!! But out here they charge me $60 to groom Brooke, and she has a long coat so they barely trim her. That's why I'm learning to groom her myself! Good Luck if you start the business!! |
I'm also a dog groomer and when I first started I got so discouraged. Most businesses aren't at their best for the first few months. It took about 6 weeks for me to get a good schedule going. Once your name is out there then it's pretty easy. I've slacked off a lot but I could always pick back up when things settle down here. I love owning my own business. :D |

ALot will depend upon where you live, what are people's income, what is your comeptition, why are you different, how much do they charge, can you afford advertising.. There is a lot involved and it can be risky. Could you start in your home and build a clientel that when you open a seperate shop you can take them with you for a built in client base? If your open 5 days a week you need to make $200 a day to make your quota is that reasonable? (does that include a salary for you?) I had a small business and it can be really tough but rewarding. Good luck! |
hi, Pet Industry is a great market! I'm in the Pet Industry myself! As a fellow? pet industry business owner, I would like to give some advices for you! =) 1. Do you have a small business experience? If you don't, please keep in mind that 1 out of 10 small businesses fail in first 5 years and from the remaining, 1 out of 10 fail in next 5 years. -Entreprenuer.com- 2. Market Research [homework] Do market research on your competitors before you open your pet grooming business. Ask why would customers choose you over your competitor? Do you know your competitors? If you don't know any of your competitors, most likely the customers won't ever know that your business have existed. 3. Marketing Strategy. Often times businesses fail not because they offer bad service or bad product. They fail because failed to advertise themselves. Your initial investment of $8000 is not a small money but also not a big money. All of your $8000 could be spent within 3 months only for advertising and you may earn nothing. If you have $8000 to spare try your business! It's a good experience! But if you have to go into a debt, don't do it or do your homework and make a bullet proof business plan! =) |
