New to YT!! Hi everyone!! I am new to YT and a new yorkie mama! I wish I would have found this website when I first brought Brooklyn home! I have a 5 month old yorkie named Brooklyn. I bought her when she was 13 weeks old. I absolutley LOVE her!! I have never had a small dog before all of my pets were boxers, but I fell in love instantly. She is sooo smart! We are working on potty training and she is doing AWESOME! She doesn't go to the door to let me know she needs to go but we don't have accidents very often. Do they ever go to the door to let you know? She does know the word outside and if I say it she runs to the door. We are also learning tricks. She loves to be challenged. She knows sit, down, roll over, up. I am trying to teach her crawl, bang, and gimme five. Well I would appreciate any information that y'all think is important since I am new with the yorkies. THANKS!!! |
hi! Welcome to YT! Yes, they will learn to tell you they need to go.... BUT...... it all depends on if they feel like it or not... hehe... I know alot of people use little bells by the door for the pup to let you know.... mine just come and look at me, that is, if they feel like going outside... Good Luck! It sounds like you are doing a great job! d |
Welcome to YT. Sounds like you're doing a great job with Brooklyn! So glad you found YT. It's the best forum (on any subject) that I've ever found on line. Coby is 1 year old and I have an 11 year old Shih Tzu. Amazing the way they make your heart swell, huh? |
Welcome to Yt!:D |
Welcome to YT, you will love it here. I have 2 yorkies myself and they are both still babies. Bella is 10 months old and Coco is 8 months old. Bella is pretty good with going on her pee pads but Coco is still not getting it quite yet. I didn't train them to go outside though so don't know about the going to the door thing, yorkies aren't the greatest potty learners LOL |
Welcome to YT! Sounds like you well on your way to having a potty trained girl! :clapsmile |
:welcome4: to Yorkie Talk! |
:welcome4: |
:welcome4: Sounds like the training is going great for the two of you!:bravo:I trained my to let me know when they wanted to go out by having them speak before I opened the door to take them out, before long they would go to the door and bark to be taken out! I have also heard of some that train them to ring bells that hang on the door. |
Welcome to YT! Rusty just comes to me and whines (that is his way of telling me he needs to go out)... I have him on schedule so he just holds "it" until the next scheduled time, or if it is an emergency he comes to me and whines.. |

Try moving her pee pad closer to the door and when you praise her for using it, also open the door, saying some combitation of "outside" and "bathroom" so that way she associates the two. Worked for me, tho now Olivia does what I like to call her "neurotic circles" to let us know she needs to potty! |
Hi and welcome to YT!:) |
Welcome, and just keep doing what you're doing. Sounds like it's working and if you ever feel the need for a challenge I can drop my two off anytime :D LOL |
