Undocked tails Just wondering...any comments on full tail pups would be appreciated. Would you pay the same for a Yorkie who has NOT had its tail docked? Thanks beforehand for all your input! DJ |
Yorkie tails Personally I would pay full price for a yorkie with an undocked tail because I happen to like them. However if you are buying to show, then as the standard says, the tail must be docked. That's just my personal opinion though. I'm sure others have other opinions.:) |
My Pixie Pooh has her full tail and she looks beautiful with it! It never stops wagging and she is such a confident little thing for a 3lb dog, she carries it high over her back when out walking and prances along like a Hackney horse as if to say, "Look at ME! i'm the bees knees"! :p It is thankfully banned here in the UK..i'm quite passionate about it..lol..I paid quite alot of money for Pixie from an excellent breeder and both her parents are show winners, she was sold to me as a pet because she is so tiny.:) |
I prefer the docked look however I have one with a tail. I read somewhere where AKC will have to accept the tail soon as many other countries do not allow tail docking, and if they show here that would be a problem |
3 Attachment(s) Sadie has her tail and I did pay full price for her... SHe is as sweet as could be. She also holds her tail over her back like a scorpion. We love her tail... and so does she! |
No I wouldn't. I would pay more for the pup with the tail docked, because I am also paying for the docking service before hand. I would also pay more for the pup with its medical affairs in order and for being chipped. Now on the other hand, if I don't want a Yorkie with a docked tail, then I would expect to pay less, because less service is being provided. I would also expect to pay less if the Yorkie hasn't been chipped yet. You know...I would still have to come out of pocket to have that done at the Vet. |
from a breeder's perspective I'm a breeder and exhibitor strongly in favor of banning tail docking here, in the US, which seems to be lagging behind most of the civilized world in this practice. After spending some time in the UK last year, and seeing Yorkies everywhere with their beautiful little tails, I resolved to discontinue tail docking in my own kennel. Under pressure from my mentor, who is still stubbornly clingling to the idea that docking is necessary for the show ring, I recently caved in and took some three day old show hopefuls for docking and regretted it with all my heart as they bled and cried all the way home. People coming to see my puppies have been overwhelmingly in favor of not docking. Breeding Yorkies is overall so expensive that the cost savings from not docking are not enough to consider when pricing a puppy. |

I also agree that the tail docking should not affect the price of a Yorkie but I do prefer them docked. I enjoy seeing Yorkies with undocked tails and they are so cute but the docked tails are part of the standard here and I like them. |
I would. I think its cute and in many countries docking is illegal. wish it was here too, seems like it would hurt!!! :( |
I would only pay less because its the standard here. I dont mean anyone offense who has a dog with the full tail and actually think the full tail is cute. As long as our standard is docked though that is how I feel |
My "little" guy (teapot) has his tail, and I LOVE it. Honestly, I don't think tail docking is expensive so really, I don't think it should affect the price. Personally I would love another one with a tail, but I'll take one without a tail too. Frankly I'm way more concerned with health and a good breeder than whether or not the dog has a tail, but that's just me... Tara :) |

I think that long tails are beautiful, It souldn't affect the price of the puppy. |
I Love the tails 1 Attachment(s) I wish the AKC standard would get changed. When I imported my Yorkies from Hungary they had their tails and I love them. Most other countries do not have the tails docked. I just had my first litter of puppies it was a very hard decision. I did not want to dock them but because they are top show stock I had to so they can be shown with AKC. These puppies are the most beautiful and the strongest I have ever seen from the minute they were born. She had 2 boys and 2 girls they are know almost 5 weeks old. Just a joy to behold It is nice we can all do as we wish or decide to do. Have a Great Day |
