Pro-Meris ALERT URGENT, PLEASE READ! Cross posted with permission and please forward to those you would like to have this information. This was posted on TICK LIST 4/12/08. Since many use once a month flea and tick products I felt it was important to beware of this product and make your own decision. Hi Everyone- the following message is very important. If you don't have a pet, please pass this on to anyone you know who may have a cat or dog....very important. Please alert others to the hazard of using a new Flea & Tick Preventative called ProMeris http://www.promeris.com/consumer/. ____________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _________ __ This is a new product designed to be a more effective product than other flea/tick treatments that was just released this year. It is available thru a vet and not currently on-line. I got ProMeris this week for my 7 dogs (6 Huskies & 1 Golden-Airedale) , and the results were debilitating for nearly all of them-including me. Since my incident this week, my vet has pulled it from distribution and alerted the manufacturer, Fort Dodge. Here are my results: Within less than 2 hours after applying, 4 of my dogs had vomited from 2-4 times, 3 were disoriented and stumbling, 1 was dragging his back leg, 1 was salivating. I had very similar symptoms like an allergic reaction-my lips were swollen, eyes very red, mucous membranes such as eyes, nose, and mouth were stinging. I was very disoriented- dizzy equilibrium and not able to drive. To make this a short story-all 7 of my dogs were admitted to the hospital for veterinarian care, and 3 of them remained for care, IV fluids and observation for 24 hours. I was in the emergency room. I'm home now and so are the dogs. We're all feeling much better. Vet bills were over $2,500 and Fort Dodge is paying for these. Not only can the product cause this reaction, it has a highly noxious odor that permeated the house and is just starting to dissipate after 3 days. Your dogs/cats might not have the same reaction, but given my experience-I wanted to help you all become well-educated about the product. Marion S. scary! |
omg thanks so much for the info! How very scary! |
Ohhh OMG thank you for this post |
yes A few years ago there was an injection for heartworm. I think if I remember right they dog got a shot once for the whole season and no more monthly pills. I useds it on all 4 of my yorks and never had a problem. They took it off the market because dogs were dying and having other serious medical reactions from it. I was so lucky that my dogs were ok with it. I am always afraid to try new things till they are on the market for a while. Why don't they test these things better before they allow us to use them on our beloved pets??? Sue & Cricket :aimeeyork |
Thats scary,I'm never sold on trying new products like that . |
Thank you soooo much. I sure hope you and all your babies are back to healthy very soon. |
It's not me! Quote:
She takes a monthly pill. I am so lucky, she takes a pill like a treat, no problems with her, thank heavens! Sue & Cricket :aimeeyork |
OMG, That is scary!! I do remember seeing their commercials a while ago, but haven't seen it within the last few months! I remember thinking when I first saw it that I'm not trying that until it has been in the market for at least 2 years and if its really necessary!! I'm glad the manufacturer is quick to pay all these bills, some just brush it to the side or fight back refusing to pay anything! |
This is why i don't use new product's. |

oh thanks every so much for that information....flea and tick season are right upon us now...thanks again |
thanks for posting that! I have been debating on whether or not to give Lily a flea/tick preventative because I have heard some horror stories about them. Someone actually told me about this product and I am so so glad I didn't use it! That is awful!!! Thanks again..I will tell everyone I know |
I have seen it advertised, and thought about using it.well, asking my vet, but not now. Although I find it odd every dog and the owner had a reaction to it! wonder if it was a counteraction with something else they were using- or had in the house?? Humm, there was a thread on this- maybe yesterday- kind of good reviews on it?? well, not worth a try is it- now anyway? No way! |
Oh gosh! I put this on Regan the other day & I did notice that afternoon she didn't act like she felt very well & I kept asking my husband what he thought but then I thought maybe she just got hot. I will not be buying this again period. |
OMG:eek: Thx for posting! I certainly hope you all recover quickly. I remember my Vet telling me about it & he said "we don't have alot of reviews yet tho from patients using because it's new. So, I didn't want to experiement & thought, that's odd......when a product is new and on the market, we don't want to be guinea pigs (for lack of better words). :( But you know, this happens in the human medical world too. Scary for sure! |
