For those with two - Do you let them stay together, like in one playpen/crate, or do you have separate ones for each of them? |
Hi! I have 5 dogs, 3 yorkies and 2 chihuahuas and they all stay together when I leave the house, in their own tile floor dog room. They all get along. Do yours not get along? |
Oh I was just wondering. I don't even HAVE Maggie yet... I'm just trying to be prepared. I have no idea if they'll get along or not. :D Thanks, though! |
I have 3. The 4 & 5 year old stay together in their room; I keep the puppy in an expen as I am not ready to trust them all together when I am gone. |
I'm here all day with both of mine so it wasn't really a problem. The first couple of times I did have to leave I put them in separate rooms.....Reno in the tile kitchen and Ruby in my bedroom with pads. If I were to bring home a puppy and had to leave them for work, I would opt for separate crates until I knew they got along well with each other. |
Gracie and Holly share an ex-pen. They each have a crate inside the pen but usually they snuggle together in one. They were in separate pens until Holly was 6 months old, meaning they had about 3 months to get acquainted before cohabitation. |
I have two, at first we didn't always let them near each other, as the older one, Yoda (who was almost four at the time) wasn't too fond of Winky, the baby, yet. As they got used to each other, we did let them stay together more and more, and that worked out fine. It was mainly Winky trying to "bug" or nip at Yoda, as Yoda was quite good about it, and didn't try to attack back or hurt the baby. I think mainly it takes a bit of time before they get used to one another. :) |
I have two and they get along great! They stay together although they each have there own crate because Jasmine is protective of it and nobody can take anything from it or go in it. If you take something she will go get it and put it back in there in a day or two! |
I have 4... they all get to pick where they sleep.. I crated Bella when I first got her because I didn't know if I could trust her loose in the house as with Bailey and Brooklynn... Peyton was never crated because my boyfriend moved in and he's always here with them.. |
my mom has 2 and they run all over the house. 1 sleeps in bed and the other sleeps in a dog bed on the floor. |
I have 2 Yorkies and a cocker . the Yrkies go in a playyard when we aren't home and the cocker goes in her room . They all go to their separate kennels at night ( the Yorkies are in our room ) . I am not so leary about leaving them all loose in the house for a few minutes now but the boys just run down the stairs if I put a jacket on and they are waiting inside the play yard ( in the basement ) for their treats :-) The Cocker has to go into her room as she has a BAD habit of getting into the food cupboard ( she can open anything ) and eating things like iced tea mix , syrup and even chocolate milk powder !!! |
i have 2 they are always together......but at first i only let them stay to gether when i was there. after about 3 months i knew they would be ok together....it is now 6years later and they are fine christine |
My 2 stay together 24/7 now, in a pen as well. When I first brought Coco home I kept them separate until I knew she was checked out healthy, at that point I started slowly getting them together. It was quite some time before I trusted them alone together. |
Thanks for all the great advice! I'll probably keep them separate for 3 months and then trust them alone together. :) |
you will know by how they get along in front of you then when you go into another room.... i also tested after a couple of months by going to the store and leaving them together but not right away. yorkies can get very viscous and sneaky tina |
I leave my 3 yorkies together in the back of the house and seperate my Pom as she is old and cranky and bigger than the yorkies. I only do this if no one is home which isn't too much. When I brought Roxie home 2 months ago I put her in a crate when I was gone because I didn't know how she would be and she wasn't potty trained. After a few weeks I saw how they interacted and now I don't crate Roxie. You will get a good idea if they are ok to be left together pretty quickly after you bring your new baby home. |
You should have separate crates for housetraining. Mine have separate crates that are there but rarely used except when they nap in them. They generally have free roam of the house or we leave them in one room together. But unless they are crated we leave them together. When we have gone out of town we took one huge collapsible crate and they stayed in there together when we went out. They get along fine. They play fight and of course get into over a toy or a stick but they also nap together and play together. |

Now that Sadie is bigger I feel she is strong enough to handle the rough play. Besides they seem to curl up and sleep while I'm gone for the most part, and there isn't tons of room in the x pen to wrestle in. |
Bella usually stays in the playpen and Rocky has run of the house. We would let Bella out, but she still has a lot of "puppy" in her and I don't want her to eat anything she shouldn't. Sometimes we'll just put them both in the playpen though. |
Both Autumn and Blaze share a crate together. They each have their own but prefer to be together!:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
Well, Jess has her lil chihuahua and she keeps him over at her place when she's at work. We go over and get him and let him come play with us and Maggy May, but personally, I couldn't leave them together, for once, Maggy isn't spayed yet and Luke isn't neutered, but even if they were, I still wouldn't, Luke can get grouchy at times so I don't wanna take the chance. He's bigger than Maggy and I'm afraid he could really hurt her. |
One senior girl is free to roam where she wants, the other senior girl stays in a sm. ex-pen, and both of the boys have their own ex-pen. My Pommie, Snowboy, is 10 mo. old, weighs 3 lbs. more than the Yorkies and gets slightly rambunctious with the 1 1/2 yr. old Yorkie, Chipper. Worries me so I just separate them even though they love each other. Snowboy is also a chewer and I don't trust him. |
