Lost my yorkie Hello All: I am new to this forum. I lost the love of my life two months ago, Bellaluna. She was an 8 month old beautiful girl yorkie. She was startled by a loud noise and jumped out of her bag, ran across the street and was hit by a car. I have been devastated. I have all her pretty clothes, toys, etc. I still have not buried her ashes as its been too difficult. She brought me so much joy. She went everywhere with me. I am self-employed so she was my constant companion. I was going to wait awhile before getting a new puppy to love. I wanted to honor Bella in that way. I feel I know yorkies pretty well as I had researched, studied, talked to people, before getting Bella. I had not trouble potty training her, she was calm, playful, and well-behaved. This is why yorkies are my favorite and I would like to have one again. Everyone loved her. Is it anyone's opinion that it is too early to get another one this year? Nothing will ever replace my little Bella and she will always be in my heart. I come home everyday, live alone, and my home is empty without her energy. I can't listen to music as it makes me cry. I wonder if anyone out there has been through a loss like this. Don't want to depress anyone, just asking. Heart-broken yorkie owner who is healing, Belinda |
Im sorry for your loss. :( I havent been through this so I have no advice, I wish you the best. |
I am so sorry. I've lost one at a young age myself. It's heartbreaking and so unexpected. Some time you may decide to get another...it does help heal your heart. Not a replacement...just another to love. Take care... |
I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I have lost a couple of yorkies in my lifetime that I was so attached to, so I do know how you feel. I don't think there is a certain time that you're supposed to and not supposed to get another companion. I think you should do whatever makes you happy. Welcome to YorkieTalk - I do wish you the best in finding another furbaby. :) |
I am so sorry for your loss. :( I don't think it is too soon but only you know in your heart if you are ready or not. You are right, no other dog will replace Bella's place. Your new baby just will add to a good memory!! Hope you will find a right time and right yorkie. :aimeeyork |
I just want to welcome you to YT. I am so very sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine. |
loss I have lost some very dear companions...a new puppy is the best way to heal your heart..your "lost" companion would want you to give all that love to another lucky Yorkie...best wishes |
I'm so sorry for your loss:( Many years ago we lost our yellow Lab Cheyenne to cancer and she was an awesome dog, she was about 7 years old. We ended up getting another yellow Lab that looked just like Cheyenne within a couple of months of her death. Long story short, it was too soon for us. Cheyenne was the perfect dog in all ways, temperament, obediance, personality, etc, and our new puppy just wasn't the same. She had lot's of issues that we just couldn't deal with. We had Molly for about 4-5 months and we never bonded with her. We realized we were trying to replace Cheyenne, a member of our family, which wasn't fair to Molly. We ended up rehoming her to a really nice family with a couple of kids and lots of property. It was very hard but we knew it wasn't fair to keep Molly. We just didn't have it in us to give here what she needed. We waited a little over a year before we got Lucee (black Lab) and she is wonderful! We were ready and able to give her the patience & love she needed to become the wonderful dog that she is today (she's now 3 years old). I'm not saying that you will have the same experiance but for us, I know if God forbid something happened to Bella or Lucee we would definitely wait at least a year before we were to get another dog. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. You're in my prayers. |
I am so sorry for your loss. I know there are others here that have/are going through what you are and will be able to lend some insight. Welcome to YT. Sending warm, healing wishes to you. |
I am so sorry for your loss :( Everyone handles grief differently. Some need another pet as soon as possible. Some need to wait a while. Some will never get another. Everyone handles it differently. If you feel the need to get one right away, you should do that. You would definitely not be replacing her but would be giving yourself another baby to love. If something every happened to Lacy I know I would feel the need to have another soon afterwards...I have just gotten so used to haveing a dog and love her so much that I would just need to keep that in my life. |
I am so sorry:( I would cry too if i listened to music, it always makes me cry. Getting another Yorkie might remind you of her but it may help your heart heal and although it won't replace her you will prob. become attached as well. I wish you the best, and i am so sorry for your tragic lost:( |
I am so sorry for your loss.:( |

I'm sorry for U're loss and I haven't been through this either. I'd say follow U're heart, it will not lead U wrong. If U feel U're ready for another baby then find U a new baby, of course a new baby will not replace U're Bella but this may also help U to heal. I don't know. I wish U the best in what ever U choose to do. Hugs |
Hi Belinda. I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my 10 year old Yorkie to cancer over the summer. Like you I didn't feel ready, but a month after he passed I found Lilly in rescue. I still wasn't convinced I was ready, but inquired about her and got a call two days later. Still not convinced but I agreed to meet her and from the moment I saw her I just started to sob and needless to say she came home with me. She's almost a year old now and she is my little love and has helped me to heal. I think you will know when the right one comes along for you. We felt especially honored as the rescue had over 100 applications for her, which we had not known at the time and they chose us. Again, I'm sorry for your loss. I know how devestating it is.
