Anyone have a Beagle and a Yorkie?!? I was so proud of my beagle Emma when I brought Winston home. She was so gentle and sweet and it made me appreciate her more. But, now that they are more acquainted she plays a bit rougher but Ive not heard a yelp yet. Should I be concerned? How can I train Emma to be more gentle or will a yelp from Winston tell her she is playing too rough? |
My mom has a beagle and Cosmo and him play great. he is a little rough sometimes and it worries me but Cosmo does not seem to mind at all. He gets up and goes after him. I dont think you have anything to worry about. Just keep an eye on them. BTW, does your beagle like to stay inside? My moms beagle hates it indoors he would rather sleep outside (weird huh). |
She sleeps in her laundry basket indoors. She designated that place herself...we like her under the covers! ;) |
My sister's beagle lives at my mom's house. At first, when Olivia was really tiny, I was worried about Belle (the Beagle) being too rough. Belle uses her paws when she plays and does a "hitting" motion to be playful. One time she did this with Olivia a little too rough and scared Olivia. Since then, Belle has been quite gentile with her. Belle adores her and just smells her and wags her tail. They are more playful outside and will run around and chase each other a little bit. I think that Emma will be able to sense if she is too rough with Winston, and a yelp (if necessary) will definitely get the point across. I wouldn't worry about it as long as Winston isn't too tiny. Beagles are pretty easy-natured dogs from my experiences, so I think Emma will be the perfect companion to Winston! |
We have a beagle mix and aside from being a little jealous at first, he does ok with Callie. We do not let them play together unless we are right there with them because the beagle has stepped on Callie. (It didn't hurt her but we're still very careful to watch the two of them.) He was trying to get back outside away from her and like always she got got under his feet, he didn't mean to. |
We have 2 beagles, both outside dogs. One is 6 yrs old, the other is almost 11 months old. THe older one would probably be fine with our yorkie, cause he "mothered" the younger beagle when we got him. But the younger one I would really worry about around the yorkie. He's still got alot of puppy in him too. He seems jealous. So, we haven't had the 3 of them together, except when we put Bentley (yorkie) in the kennel outside for a little while, then it's only thru the fence that they have any contact. He thinks he's as big as they are too!! |
I know this thread is a few days old but.... I have a 5 year beagle and he is great with my puppy. He plays with him all the time and there are times when Jack-Jack will yelp but then my beagle backs off--then Jack-Jack comes back for more :) |
I have a 13 year old Beagle who Chloe adores!!!!!!!! Nikki just walks around and Chloe is alway chasing after...trying to jump and bite at her paws and tail. Nikki could care less. Nikki hasn't started really playing with her yet, but her tail is always wagging....so I'm sure she doesn't mind having a baby around. Joy, Nikki :animal36 and Chloe Rose:rose: :wavey: :yorkietal |
I have a 6 year old beagle named Haggis. He was so good with Starsky when we brought him home. He has always been pretty gentle with Starsky. It's Starsky who is the ruff one! Haggis will take so much and then just growl loud at him and Starskys rolls on his back in his submissive pose. But he'll be back at jumping all over Haggis in no time. I think Haggis loves Starsky and loves to play. They are lonely without one another. Starsky also likes to tease Haggis with his toys. They are quite entertaining to watch!!! |
