Luig the jumper- again :( Ok- I swear Luig is going to make me lose my mind!!! AAAarrrrghghgh! You know I have said what a major jumper he is- right! Well today I come home and he is sooo excited as usual but he had to peepee real bad so he ran right over to the door!!! We went out did his thing and yea-- no jumping this time!!! Yea!!!!I was sooo happy, I was giving him kisses and all that good stuff, picked him to give him more kisses and I must have gotten him real excited again. He became, very squirmy, so I was attempting to put him down, and he pushed off me and dove about 6-8 feet away from me and landed on his side and rolled over! Which thank goodness he landed on the carpet, cuz we were origianlly on the tile in the kitchen. Or more like fipped over. But he got right back up and was jumping and wanting to play. So we took a nap after about 1/2 hour of playing. Then my hubby came home. Usually Luigi runs to the door to greet him, but he just stayed on me. So eventually Luig got down off the couch and he sat down right away, which is not like him. He just kept looking at me like--help me. He finally got up and he was hobbling a bit. :( So I got him and squeezed his legs a bit to see and when I put pressure on his back, right leg- he was trying to push me away. :( I am such a bad mommie. But the more he walks, the less he is limping. I swear, I call the ER vet so much, they must know me by now. But Ray said we should wait and see how he is doing- which now you can't tell if he is limping and is running after his toys and acting almost normal. So if tomarrow- if he's not acting right- I will call my regular vet and see what she says. But it still doesn't seem like he is putting regular pressure on it right now though. Ray thinks it may be a bruise. I feel sooo bad right now, that I have cried twice already and Weeg just looks at me like I am nutso! He is really going to make me have a heart attack for real! Sorry for going on and on- but I had to get that of my chest that I feel like a terrible mom. |
We've got a jumper. I'm so sorry to hear about Luigi. Cookie is the same way. I've found that it's easiest to not pick her up right away. But, also squat or sit at her level so she stops jumping so much. Yes, she gets in our face then but at least she's not going to hurt herself. We usually sit on the floor with her for the first minute or so until she calms down. I would bet Luigi probably just bruised himself but I would keep an eye on him. Try my advice...hopefully it will help. |
don't feel bad, it happens! Pippa has jumped and hurt different legs twice, the first time she limped for about an hour, then suddenly recovered right when I was about to run her in the ER vet! The next time she leaped off the recliner and landed funny and wimpered and limped around so pitifully, I thought she broke her leg. We went to the ER vet and spent about an hour in the waiting room, then back to the exam room she wanted down to sniff the dog smells and was walking normal!! So in comes the vet and I tell him I'm sorry, but I think she's fine-thank goodness he concurred and didn't charge me! Anyway, give it some time-I think they can just sometimes get their paw or leg bruised or sprained. You're not a bad mommie! |
Your not a bad mommy!! But I think your hubby is right. Wait until tomorrow, maybe you can put a cold pack on it tonight. Hope he feels better in the morning :p |
Mandy----you are NOT a bad mommy! I know what you are going through as Simon gives me the same issues. He has hurt his leg a few times and has luxating patellas so I have a hard time telling what is going on. At one point he jumped off the table (he crawled his way up there) and was limping and I was freaking out so I took him in and he had bruised his little leg. It took him 2 days to be not limping anymore. THe vet compared it to a sprain like we humans would get. I do hope Luigi is okay and you are okay too! It's hard when they get so excited and they are such wiggle worms most of the time! Weegie, it's Hawwie Ann! You have to stop it! I just don't know what I would do if you got huwt. I would be too sad! Pwease be careful otay? I wuv you vewy vewy much! |
Thanks Kimberly. I figured it was a sprain. He's been acting more normal except now he walks to his toys and not run. :( Cookiemonster- thanks for the advise! That is usually what I do- I get down to his level and it has been working. But today he ran right to the door instead of wanting to play, so when I picked him up, it was after he was calmed down and not as excited- til I started kissing on him like I usually do. And he got excitied again! Tmahterly- Poor Pippa- I really do think that they think they should be able to fly!! Luigi loves to fly off the bed. I hate it! It totally freaks me out! Glad she is OK! Troubletb- I did wrap some frozen peas around a towell and put it under his blankets here on the couch. I hope it helps! Thanks! Hi Hawwiebaby!! I know I have to top jumpin dough high and twying to push away fwom my mommie so I don't get huwt. I pwomise I will twy to be careful-- otay!!!! I wuv yu!!!!-Weegiebaby!!! Tweat dweams Hawwiebaby!!!! |
I hope Luigi is fine. If he keeps limping taking him to the vet, probably is just a sprain, but is best to be safe. Please keep us posted. I will have him on my prayers for him to be ok. |
Grow that boy some hair to grab when he does that. Autumn has tried stuff like that and I always grab hair. She's not going to hit the floor if I can stop her. Sometimes she looks at me like "Why did you do that?" But I don't care by the time I realize she gave me that look, I'm alread smothering her with kisses and chewing her out for trying to jump away. Hope he feels better soon! You are not a bad mommy it happens to all of us! |
Don't blame yourself. It's just the nature of some of our dogs. Skippy's like a live bouncing ball, and no matter how hard I try he always try's to get away. |
