AKC vs ACA??? Im not really sure what the difference is between these two reg. I mean other than the obvious, all my dogs have always been AKC reg but is ACA as good?? I was looking at a pup that I found out was ACA reg, now if the sire is AKC and the dam is ACA reg how does that work for the pup?? Do you get a choice of what reg u want?? Or does it really matter? Im so coooonnnfffuuussseeedddd!!! |
Check out this thread and read all the replies: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...light=registry ACA is basically a garbage registry. There are a couple people on here that raise ACA Yorkies, and I am not in any way saying they have garbage dogs, but that registry has not been around for long. Since the internet came along, a lot of little dog registries popped up, and this is one of them. If you just check out their website, compared to AKC's you'll immediately change your mind about buying an ACA puppy just based on the organization - www.acacanines.com. Good luck in your search for a new puppy!! :D :D |
:goodpost: All dog registries are NOT created equal. |
Thank you :) |
Ok, so how does that effect the puppy if the sire is AKC and the dam is ACA?? Can the pup be registered with AKC?? |
No it can NOT be reg with AKC. Almost anyone can get a dog reg with ACA or any of the others that are popping up. AKC has strict standards, but if you aren't looking for a show quality dog it really doesn't matter so much |

While most of us aren't looking for show quality dogs, the AKC is the only registry that actually does kennel inspections. The other registries appeal to unsophisticated buyers who just are looking for a "registered" dog, but who have no idea what that means. A registered dog and the AKC use to be synonymous, but now that anyone can invent a registry, unethical breeders and puppymills who have been dropped from the AKC are looking for ways to make their dogs more appealing by offering alternative registries. The AKC also has records of all the dog's bloodlines going back many generations, and I'm hopeful, in the future, with DNA testing they will be useful in helping to isolate the genes carrying the heredity diseases that inflict so many purebred dogs. |
Ok I see now. Ty all for your responses. |
While some important points have been made here, it is also worth noting that many breeders have begun to turn away from AKC because of the increase in fees, fees, and more fees. Moreover, having AKC registration in itself does not guarantee the health or lineage of your dog. In the long run, a good relationship with a reputable breeder is much more valuable than a particular registry. I would never base my decision on registry alone. Again, not trying to take away from the good points already made here. Just adding additional info. :) |

I doubt if breeders are turning away from the AKC due to fees; they can always recap the fees in the cost of the puppy. I think it's due to the tightening of rules. To individually register a puppy is less than $20.00 for life. We expect so much from the AKC, and they need money in order to do the inspections. I do agree, I would never base my decision on the registry alone, it's just a start, but I would not consider a breeder who couldn't at the very least produce an AKC puppy. |
:goodpost: :goodpost: :goodpost: This is the most informative thread I have read on YT in a very long time! |

By no means is my intention to demean AKC. I agree that they do more than the other registries. However, no registry is perfect, and all registries can be manipulated. ANY registration is only as good as the breeder behind it. |
I wanted to post this link as well: http://www.alv.org.au/storyarchive/0712puppy/cruel.php Someone in another thread posted it and I think it will be helpful. It is talking about ACA Puppymills. I didn't read the entire thing through, but I believe it is talking about the ACA we're talking about. I'm just in a hurry and didn't have time!! :D |

I know its talking about a pet shops, but the first line said ACA breeders --- the Aussie kennel club is called the Australian National Kennel Council. It has to be that. |
