getting new puppy Hello everyone! i'm new to this forum and i had a question about how to keep my new puppy i'll be getting in a couple of weeks and my 1 year olds food separate from each others  any advice? thanks linda |
Bet you can't wait to get your puppy - are they both yorkies?! or samll dogs ..?? I'm afraid I took the cowards way out and put food down according to our pup's diet and let our elder one have it too rather than have the pup ill eating what they shouldn't .... Gypsy Rose is now 18 months and Gizzie Chavi now 6 months and they've now been on adult food and "natural" food for a while ... Hope this helps ..!! Bet you can't wait to get your pup!! |
if you plan on crate training the pup, then it is a good idea if you feed the puppy in the crate..... |
Mojo was still a puppy when we adopted Byron, sooooo, i had to "force" each dog to use their own little plate. Supervising is a good choice, or you can feed them at different times...or in different places...now, remember, puppy food can make an adult dog gain weight...and a puppy needs more food and more meals than an adult! |
Feeding time at our house is hectic. We have to keep the cat food on my dresser out of reach of the dogs, Luca Dean's gets supervised feeding time -- sometimes I put him in his kennel to eat if there's a lot going on. My lab mix is overweight and has diet food we put in a ball that she has to roll around (exercise). We've taught the others they don't get to play with the ball. Then we have a terrier mix that gets fed 2x/day -- puppy food -- but he's so protective of his kibble no one goes near him. I try feeding Luca Dean (my yorkie) and Hank (terrier mix) in separate rooms, but Hank always snarfs his down and comes to try and steal from Luca Dean's bowl. It's tough, but necessary, b/c Luca Dean gets supplemented food. I dream of the day they'll all eat together, the same food, from one huge dog bowl. |
