Pet Health Insurance Hi To You All, I have a new Yorkie baby and our vet gave us information on pet insurance. I have pamplets on both Veterinary Pet Insurance www.petinsurance.com and also Pet Care www.petcareinsurance.com. They cost between $30.00-60.00 per month and seem to cover alot including part of well visits, vaccinations, spay/neuter, heartworm and flea medicine, teeth cleaning etc.... Do any of you have this insurance? Just wondering if these insurance policies are all that they say they are.... Thanks for your advice!!! :aimeeyork |
VIP Pet Insurance I bought this insurance for my ruby take a look at it and compare to yours. I haven't seem your but mine is pretty good. Good luck. |
I have VPI for Bella and we like it. Its pretty simple and striaght forward. |
We had it with a previous dog and it ended up costing us WAY more than it was worth. We have savings in the bank, so if something were to come up with either of the dogs we'd have the $ to pay what was needed. I think we paid a total of $3000 and only used something like $350 of what we paid. The only way I'd recommend pet insurance to anyone is if they don't have any savings in case of emergencies. |
We carry the plan through Petsmart and I love it! It has covered all of his office visits, his vaccinations, worming and fecal exams, heart worm test, his neuter and generally if something is going on that I am not comfortable with they will fit him in to see him immediately because we are on the plan. I also get discounts on anything that isn't covered. Granted this is more of a preventitive type of plan but I also have a standing line of credit should something major come up that goes beyond my coverage as accidents I know do happen. So for us anyway the insurance experience has been nothing but positive. |
Shelly, how much does it run? Where do you take him? To the vet attached to the Petsmart? Sylvia |
Yes, Sylvia he goes to Banfield the pet hospital associated with Petsmart. It cost me $99.00 to sign him up initially and then I do an auto pay of $19.95 per month. Teddy is almost 7 months old and so my out of pocket to date has been about $179.00 and my vet costs that I would have paid would have cost me about $1500.00 if he had not been on the plan. He was a very sickly baby to start with and he was seen on an almost daily basis for the first month of his life. I thank god that a friend of mine had her insurance through their and had a good enough experience that she passed it on to me. It is so nice to go in and sign a paper and never have to worry about fees. The only out of pocket that I have spent is on his heart worm medication but his test was included in the plan. Like I said I like it and it has been a pocket saver for us. I would never not go the same route with another pet I get because I feel it lets me be a more responsible pet owner since I never really have to worry about money. |
Shelly, do you know if they give group rates? I'd hate to have to pay $20 for each of my 5 per month, they aren't that sickly. |
Yes, Sylvia they do have a group rate but I don't know the details as I haven't enrolled my older dogs as of yet. Call your Banfield and talk to them also if they are older dogs the initial cost is lower and the monthly is lower as well. The prices I quoted are the costs for the babies seeing they need so much in the first year of life it is a higher cost. Hope this helps...... |
