MINNEAPOLIS - Amy Rice feared for her dog's life when a pit bull jumped over a fence into her yard and attacked her pooch. So she took matters into her own mouth.

Rice says she bit the pit bull on the nose Friday after trying to pull the dog's jaws off her Labrador retriever, Ella. The dog had jumped a fence to get into Rice's northeast Minneapolis yard, and Rice says she feared the pit bull would kill Ella.

Rice says she drew blood when she bit the dog, and her doctor will have to determine whether she should get shots for rabies.

The pit bull was quarantined. Ella is recovering with staples and stitches to her head and a crushed ear canal.

We saw that in the Tampa Tribune, we used to live in MN. Think I would have done the same thing. Hope she is o.k.

OMG, never thought of that. Is it true that pit bulls have a high pain threshold?

whoa. That is so cool. She is so brave I would've been screaming and crying for help!! My granny always used to tell me to bite a dog on the ear if they attacked you, to "show who's the leader", but wow!
I hope she's ok, and I'm really glad she did this! Daemar's (my yorkie) cousin got attacked by a dog when my aunt and uncle weren't home and the vet said he would've lost his life w/o the $4,000 surgery... sorta sad that "bully" and all dog owners don't try to prevent these things and they know that there dogs have a slight chance of attacking.

yeah, it's true Snoopy. Also, a "bully" bit my friend's leg off...*1/2 way* so he had to get it amputated....

wow she was soooo brave!! I'd be too scared! I'm glad she and her dog are ok tho!

OMG that was quick thinking. i dont know what id do if something like that would happen to me. scream? try to kick the dog off? i get nervous when big dog sniff around my lil one.

if i knew of any pit bulls living near me, my gun would be loaded,..:aimeeyork

I am so glad that she saved her dog. I think I would have tried kicking him in the privates first. I can't imagine putting my face on the face of an attacking pit bull; but I do know there is no limit to what I would do to save one of my boys:)
