a challenge for you this is to everyone... I would like to ask you to google your local humane society, get directions and take a tour of their facility. Take a gift with you.... here is a simple recipe or if you could use your own.. 1/2 cup cornmeal 6 tbsp Oil 2 cups whole wheat flour 2/3 cup water or broth Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients together well. Roll out to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes with cooky cutter. Bake 35-40 mins, let cool and store in tightly sealed container. here is another...................... Milk Bone Dog Biscuits 3/4 cup hot water 1/3 cup margarine 1/2 cup powdered milk 1 teaspoon salt 1 egg, beaten 3 cups whole wheat flour Variation: increase margarine to 1/2 cup and add 2 teaspoons sugar In large bowl pour hot water over the margarine. Stir in powdered milk, salt, and egg. Add flour, 1/2 cup at a time. Knead for a few minutes to form stiff dough. Pat or roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into bone shapes. Bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes. Cool. They will dry out quite hard. Makes about 1 1/4 pounds of biscuits. Costs around 30 cents per pound. most shelters would use about the same things i would suppose. here is a copy of the list from my local humane society. you could even go into the dollar store and buy one or two of these items without breaking your bank. I also wanted to add that while at the humane society today donating some things I met one dog that had no ears...... no ears.. the owner had cut the ears off!!! cut the ears off!!!! it had ran away from the owner. can you blame it? If you can possibly donate anything... do it.. they need things... the toys that i donated was really appriciated by all the puppies.... those gruffle balls was a big time hit! I found this also.... http://www.sheltercare.com/shelters/banners.asp |
What agreat idea. Terrible about the dog with ears cut off....I just will never understand how people can be so cruel! |
I forgot to add also you can take a bag of carrots with you. walk through and give everyone a treat at low cost to you. depending on the size of your area you can do it all in just a 1/2 hr or so. not much out of a busy week is it? |
Great idea. Friday I dropped off 5 crates/carriers, blankets, carpeted stairs and cat condos to Save A Pet no kill shelter in my area and they were so grateful. I walked in the small dog room and my heart broke. They were hiring a part time adoption counselor but I don't think I could handle seeing so many sad animals. I do plan on going back periodically and giving donations. |
they are extremely greatful for anything you donate. I also noticed they have a can bin for any alumium cans you want to donate. |
stop in and take a dog for a walk.................make their day! |
I donated a big bag of puppy food yesterday. How come I could not think of other things else that I could give, like pens, I have tons of those that I can use for my whole life, literally. The human society is a bit far from where I live, I passed by there only when I go for a Korean BBQ restaurant for dinner. So next time I will for sure donate some other items, then go for the BBQ restuarant just to reward myself, hehe. |
oh gosh.. this is sweet... it breaks my heart that we live in a world where all pets cannot be loved and taken care of like we do with ours... geez... great idea denise! |
