Carseat Help I think Ellie needs a carseat and I don't know what one is best or even what all of my choices are, so: What one is best? The ones I hear of most often are the Look-Out and Console. Are these the two best? Which one is safer? Is there more than one company that makes these? Where is the cheapest place to get them? What size should I get (Ellie is 5-6 pounds)? Do all sizes work for all vehicles? Thanks Everyone:) |
I am in the same boat. But I have narrowed it down to one. Waiting for a sale. It is called "The Travelin Dog Pet Carseat" at Petsmart. It is the only one I like so far.:) |

I really want one that goes in the front (if it is safe). |
I have console car seat. Maxi gets too anxious if he is in lookout carseat. When I have him in his console car seat he is more relaxed because he is closer to me. I heard somewhere that if you have airbags on both sides of your car it is safer if you use console one because it is in between the car seats. Or you can use other carseats for backseats of your car but I cant beacause Maxi will go bananas  My console seat I got for 50 bucks and I thought Maxi wont fit in it because he is 7 pounds. On the site it said pets up to 4 pounds but when I got it and installed it Maxi fits. He can lay down or sit. It has straps that go throu seats and close at the back and also has a strap to put around your console. |
1 Attachment(s) Here is Sadie in her new car seat from PetSmart. I was really surprised how much she liked it. She sits lower down b/c if she watches the other cars it makes her carsick:confused: but it has these legs that pop out if your baby wants to see out. I have her in the front seat b/c it doesn't weigh enough to activate the airbag.(the little light says "OFF"). It was about $60 and well worth it in my opinion. Also my friend has a look out and it doesn't strap in as well as my (IMO of course) but her baby loves it and it works for them. hth! jenny |
oh, i don't have the sides straps tied in yet but i do use them. it helps keep her in the seat and not climbing the door or console :) |

If your baby can sit in the back seat with no whining then definitely use the back. I have console carseat for my baby but I dont have airbag on the passanger side. |

Parker's gets car sickness when he rides in the backseat. His car seat sits up high and has a suitcase at the bottom. My vet suggested putting his seat in the front passenger side to see if that would help for his carsickness. I now have his car seat in the front , which has really helped with his car sickness. I do keep the passenger side air bag off. I just ordered the console seat for a SUV for my Tahoe, but I will still turn off the air bag on the passenger side. |

The one thing I don't like about this particular seat is that there are not sides to it. In the Lookouts there is at least a little side that would help keep them inside (along with the tether), so at least you would have a little protection against a potential airbag. |

Can they jump out of ANY of these? I don't want her to be able to. What I really want is to get a console carseat but leave both airbags on. I want her to be safe though, so I won't do that if it isn't. Is a Lookout in the backseat the best? |

When I use the side straps she has to stay right in the seat (she doesn't have them attached yet in the picture). No leaning out or crawling up the console etc. But my airbag is turned off. I think picking a carseat has as much to do with your vehicle these days with airbags etc. With the ones with the sides Sadie feels like she needs to stand up and look over so she can see me  . I would suggest trying some with your puppy to see what he likes. Once you know it is safe in your car then try some out to see which he likes better |

I have both a console seat and the My Buddy Lookout, both by Snoozer. Sissy loves her console and will not ride in the backseat if she can help it. With all the carseats I am aware of, your pup is connected to a tether that attaches to the carseat or seatbelt and to a harness your pup is wearing. This prevents them from climbing out, though some can still manage!!! I believe as with children in carseats, backseat is probably the safest route, but I feel very comforble with the console seat as well. I know there is another brand that makes a seat very similar to the Snoozers, but the sides are even a little higher. I can't remember the name of that company, but I know someone here recently bought one of those. All the carseats are pricey, but well worth the safety they provide. Sometimes you can find good sales on Ebay with free shipping, too. |
