soft treat suggestions for training K'nute had her first puppy class yesterday and she was very brave considering the rest of the class is all really big dogs. When i am at home working with her i use apples and hot dogs for treats, and they work great. But yesterday, at puppy school, she wasn't having anything to do with those treats! Any suggestions on easy soft treats she might enjoy for when she goes to school? :animal36 |
Zukes Minis are good soft treats. Loki would take those at class no problem. For Sammy the only thing that kept her interested was fresh chicken. I would just make sure we had chicken the night of or night before class and bake an extra chicken breast. I would chop it up and take it in a little plastic container. Plus, we used so many treats at class that I didn't have to worry about her having too much with the chicken. I have Zukes on Barkaholics if you need them. Also Soft & Chewy Buddy Biscuits are good too, but you have to break them up. |
I read on the Science Diet website about making some treats. You take canned food, slice it about 1/4 thin then cut those slices into pieces. You can nuke them for 3.5 minutes or bake them at 350 for about 30 mins. Put them in the fridge to cool and then seal them in a container. They keep for about a week. I have done one or two slices cut up at a time for my three. They LOVE it! I freeze the rest of the uncooked can food. Beware though it STINKS whe they are cooked so we open windows but the babies can't resist the treats. |
I don't use treats... :( my kiddos don't like them... So I found that using small pieces of kitty food they will work extra hard! They're only used for training so they don't get unless thats what we're doing (unless they can manage to somehow get the cat to "give" them some! ) |
Diggy Kisses! You can get them from Diggy4 right here on Yorkietalk. They are soft pumpkin flavored treats and my dogs will do just about anything for them. If you find her signature, you can click on the link. |
We took a trick training class, and he got more and more spoiled with the treats he would eat. I would suggest giving him ½ his normal food during this period and using the other half for training, or use all the food given for training. Joey gained over a pound in tricks class and for the past 3 months has been on a diet. Vet wanted him to lose it slowly. We would buy expensive treats that he seemed to love at first, but he would eventually hold out for something else. Chicken and string cheese were his favorites. Don't feed him before class, most of the training is done at home that's why I suggested his regular food for that. Although they suggest soft treats, I don't think it's important, what's important is it be small. I still do the training at home and his breakfast food is all used for the trick training. I use Royal Canine for yorkies, and it's the perfect size for treats. |
Hi, I second Zukes Minis. Kiwi loves the chicken flavor and they are small, soft and delicious to her. |
My guy got full from all the natural balance pieces we were giving him the first night-he's less than 3 lbs. I made tilpalia and salmon for the next couple of classes. It's messy but he loves it! And he doesn't fill up so easily.:) |
I use Zuke's minis also. Those are small but I make them even smaller by breaking them up into 2 pieces. I don't want to give too much and not have here eat her regular food. |
honey nut cheerios |
Bacon & Cheese chewy buddy biscuits, bil-jac liver treats, ziwi peak, all very potent and stinky. They will leave your hands stinky too:tongue030 |
Mine love the Natural Balance Lamb and Rice dog food rolls sold at Petco. I cut it into little bit size pieces. |
In the training class we took, the instructor used frozen Bil Jac that she thawed out before class and used little tiny balls of this stuff for treats. She wanted something that was chewed up rapidly and gone.So as not to distract them too long chewing.Or what about cooked carrots? |
