Ok.. I Have A Question About Dog Parks.. Hey Friends!! So I have a question about dog parks.... We have a dog park a couple blocks from my house. What's cool about this one is that there are two, one for big dogs and one for small dogs... Roxi is very small, 2lbs 8oz. And most of the time she is the smallest.. I started slow, only going when it's not busy, and at small intervals ect. So now it's been about 6 visits, she's getting a little more brave... It's funny cause she is really brave ON the leash!! It's a good idea to take her right?? She always sees other dogs, as our area is very pet friendly...All the other dogs have been really nice but she just can't play as hard as they do!! I just don't want to be bringing her if she doesn't like it.. Do you all bring your Yorkies to the dog park??? I would love your feedback on the issue... Thanks!!! XX:aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I tried a dog park which was also split between small dogs and big dogs. the small side was full of big breed puppies. they were 3-4 times bigger than bella. They pounched on her so we had to leave. |
Wow, your baby is soo small. How old is she? I'd be careful going to the dog parks even if they are segregated. Even small dogs can be rough. I have a dog park near my house and I hate it when the big dog owners opens up the gate to combine the big and little dogs! |
I think it's a great idea as long as you are comfortable and cautious! It's great that to socialize her to other dogs. There is nothing worse (or more annoying) than a dog who flips out when he sees another dog(s) because he hasn't been properly socialized. |

I think dog parks are a great idea! We go every or every other day. Just make sure you keep an eye on her carefully so that other dogs aren't hurting her. I hate that the dog parks are only split up into "big" and "small" sections. I personally believe there should be a separate "tiny" dog section. The small section is for dogs 30lbs and under which SOUNDS small, but when you put a 25lb dog next to a tiny Yorkie, it's a HUGE weight difference. Franklin is 7.5lb and is still usually the smallest dog there. |
Well me and my friends have "dog park fun day Wednesday" and we all meet at a dog park with our dogs after work. Teddi likes to visit with the people at the park and she likes to see her friends. Most of the time she just stands between my legs observing but she still has fun. I think it's great to socialize them. Maybe you can go with a friend so your dog will know someone else there. |

I wish they had a "Tiny" dog section, that would be awesome!! |
Dog Park Is Great I agree with the tiny section because I get mad when people bring in there dogs that are supposedly small but they are ten times the size of yorkie and then everyone gets mad and leaves. Its such a shame. The dog park is really fun not just for your dog to socialize but also to make freinds, share stories and talk dog, find reputable breeders and exchange information and ideas..hehe. Here in SD we have a Yokie meetup once a week where all the yorkies and owners go to the park. I must say there is nothing cuter than fifty yorkies running around playing. Its yorkie heaven..... It might take her a couple twenty times...hehe...for your furbaby to get used to it but once she does it will be like her puppy years all over again. |

Yes, the OP should look for a meetup in their area: http://www.meetup.com/ In SF, we have like 576 members alone. |

Once Izzie has all her shots I plan to take her to our dog park, it also has the segregated areas based on size, which is great. I plan to take her when there aren't too many dogs then eventually when there are few more. But just like they OP said its important to socialize your dog. I would just be cautious of other owners and their dogs, some owners don't pay attention to their dogs. |
Yep ... I've taken my dogs to the dog park that has a small pen and another larger pen for big dogs. Even though the small pen dogs are at least 3 to 4 times larger than my 3 yorkies, I've had to leave the pen because mine were the trouble makers. I don't know where my dogs get off thinking they are pit bulls !!! |

But for reals. When I took all my 3, Naboo had a suitor and Wookie (her husband) followed them around like a hawk. If he saw that suitor tried smelling her butt, then he would growl at him and I would then scoup him up. I swear Naboo is such a flirt. |
