Show dog people: Collars? Do any of you not use a collar to avoid damaging their fur for show purposes? Or have you found a collar that is gentler than a leather one? I ask because a friend shows her Australian shepherds and was advised by the breeder to forego a collar. But she worries that if the dog ever escapes, it will be difficult for the finder to ID her. She has a microchip, but she thinks the neighbor who finds them won't take the time to get a vet to check it out. She's considering an ear tattoo. Thanks for your advice in advance. |
Fine! I see I stumped the band. A friend came up with a good suggestion. http://www.whitepineoutfitters.com/c...&ProductCode=1 |
I have never seen a collar used on show dogs but I guess they might on the big ones. Most people that show smaller dogs use what is known as a 'kindness' lead. it is a thin cord with a little satin neckband that only goes under the chin. i willpay more attention to the big dogs next time. |
I dont leave a collar on a dog that is being shown as it can damage the hair, rub the coat out or discolor it. I put a show lead on them only at the show or if I am training them. |
My breeder shows and she uses a slip lead..a very light cord..my breeder advised me against a harness as she said it ruins the coat..but i didn't like putting anything around Pixie's tiny neck so i have a puppia harness now.. |
