Multiple Yorkies owners, how many is too many? HI, I have two yorkies right now and am considering rescuing another that I found. My husband is saying that 3 would be too many but we've never HAD 3 yorks before so I don't know if it WOULD be too many....Is 3 much different than two? I understand that the vetting would be slightly more and food, etc...but in terms of living every day, is it much different? Thanks so much for any input... |
We currently have 2 yorkies and 3 Silkies that are living in our house right now...I would say that 2 is no harder than 3, they all start to just fit right in after a while and it is just about making time to play with each individually and give that attention. It is much harder traveling with them once you have more than 2 but as far as day to day care I would say that is no harder. Vet bills do add up so you have to be prepared for that as well as flea and heartworm meds for all!! |

We have three and one was a rescue. Personally three aren't any more work than two. I would say most important, is if you can budget for another.(vet expenses etc.) Oh and there's always enough love to go around for another.:animal-pa |
Thank you for the input, and thanks for the link, I'm not a breeder but the general consensus from the link of "enough time and attention for each" really helps. I think this will help my hubby too, and if I can help a york in need, why not, right? |
WHAT?!?!?!?! There Can Be Too Many?!??!?!? LOL,, nah!! just kidding ,, I got Cricket and she was going to be an ONLY doglet,, but they are like Lays,, cant have just one,,lol,, we have 3 and i really want ONE more,, I really like Even numbers,,,;) |
I agree! Now I just have to get my hubby bit by the yorkie love bug! Blessings! |
I have 4.... I got my first two at the same time Brooklynn and Bailey (they're sisters) and after that I got my biewer, Bella, and then I got my little guy, Peyton. After Brooklynn and Bailey (two period) it all feels the same! Vet bills are going to be higher but I have the money so that didn't bother me (and should I not have the money at the time, my vet lets me pay later... Food didn't seem to quadruple with four..lol I usually buy a 5lb bag and that lasts us two months... Petco didn't have any in so we bought a 20lb bag and that will last us probably close to 8 months!! lol I love my four all the same! :D |
I have 4, 3 yorkies and a pom. The only problem is trying to walk all of them, of course I have a hard time walking 2 as they don't walk at the same pace, and vet bills. Otherwise food is not much different since a big can usually a lot was thrown out since it doesn't last now I have less waste. They keep each other busy too. |
I have 3 and I definitely agree about walking them. I actually walk them 1 at a time around my neighborhood because I do not like 1 dragging the other. All 3 are different weights, Naboo is like 12-15 lbs, Wookie is 9-11 lbs, and Squeekie is 6.4lbs. Also traveling gets tricky, long gone are the good old days when we would take our spontaneous vegas vacations. I also want to add that I just Love LOVE having 3, its such a delight and they keep me entertained. |
We LOVE having 3 too. I am even considering adding another baby... I hope your husband comes around. Good Luck |

Ill be honest, for me, 3 is too many, but by default and unexpected rescue thats what I ended up with. I adore all 3 of them and never will give any of them away , but I will never do it again. For me, the vet bills are alot, just the flea care for all three and the heartworm medicine. The other big problem for me is the mess they cause. I work full time and dont have alot of spare time. Not all three are Yorkies but all are toy breeds and still have frequent potty accidents. Its hard enough to keep up with cleaning after one, but 3 is impossible. They have ruined my carpet and some of my furniture. |
