Thin Hair Hi I'm new to the site I have been reading it for a couple of weeks, but this is my first post.I have a 15week Yorkie(my first) baby girl. Her name is Jasmine. Her hair is extremely thin on her head, in fact you can see her scalp.I think she has a cottony coat judging from what I have read. Is there anything I can do, or is this natural for puppies? I shampoo her once a week with a puppy shampoo/conditioner I purchased from Petsmart. She is fluffy for a few days, and then she gets kinda stringy looking. Should I change products or just shampoo more frequently? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Seashell |
First of all - Welcome to Yorkie Talk!!! I wouldn't worry too much about about the thin hair - Tucker was the same way. He's 7 months now & he's starting to even out. We'd love to see some pictures of Jasmin - you'll have to post some!! |
Bandit (one of angel's puppies) is like that too. He's very thin on top. Either that or the hair is super light. I have a feeling he's gonna be very silky and VERY light colored as he matures. I agree with Biddy's Mom on this one. It's nothing to worry about. It's like a new born human baby. Some have a lot of hair while others have little to none. Eventually that changes. |
My 3 month old, Roxy, is very thin. She lost some hair due to the stress of the move. (Long story)... Anyway, our vet told us to give it a few months and not worry about it. |
I agree with all of the above. Millie Sage has thin hair on top too. |
Thin Hair I was told many years ago that puppies with thick heavy coats will not have the correct color of a coat when they are adults. Silky coated puppies will appear to have thinner coats. As adults they will have the long coats of silky, correct texture. Many a puppy will go through a period from 3 1/2 to 5 months of age in which they look straggly. Most overcome this rough period and change from the ugly duckling to a swan. |

My Sophie has a thin coat also right now  ...Her breeder told me that it would fill in at about 7-8 months.... Tune in............... LOL :p |
Copper's hair is thin, too. I was really worried when he was younger...but it is coming in silver or blonde on top now....He is a bit different, however, being a Chocolate....His coat has a silver or blonde undergrowth on his back, too. I think he may be all blonde or silver when he becomes an adult. http://www.yorkietalk.com/gallery/sh...00&ppuser=1599 |
My 4 year old female has rather cottony, semi-curly hair. She's almost all black except her head is silver. My 7 month old male has stringy hair and he's mostly black, too, but I can see that his hair close to his body is VERY much silver. I wonder if that means he's going to be silver and silky? |
Your little girl's hair might not be as thin as it appears..The hair on the head when it starts to change to the adult color looks like she is going bald..It is just the color that starts coming in at the roots first..Here's hoping that is the situation.. |
I thought the same of my Chico but now he is 5 1/2 months his hair is a beauty! He is very blonde on his head with black tips b/c of baby hair growing out and his body is already a light silver. His coat is very silky. I read somewhere too that the thin hair on a puppy is supposed to be a tip off of a very nice silky coat as an adult. |
First of all, Welcome to YT. Looking forward to see pics and hear stories of your baby Jasmine. Gucci's hair was very thin on top of her head. Still looks kind of thin but you can see gold and silver there. I think your baby is fine, I wouldnt worry. |
I was wondering the same. My Roxys hair is real thin and Imanxious to put some bows in her hair but theres no way I can yet. I can see her scalp on her head. |
Teddy is 6 months old and we went through the bald look, the ugly duckling look and FINALLY he is starting to look less like a little grease monkey and more like a yorkie. I wouldn't have loved him any less but I went through my times that I felt I had been totally ripped off. So, hang in there it will get better with time. |
I also have a question,on the adult hair,I always thought they were to have a blue black saddle, if they turn platumne all over will the saddle change too, they are at 1 year old |
