I used to put a cotton ball on Gucci's ears but it used to fall every time. So I don't do it anymore. I always make sure I dry her ears very well after her bath. I do pluck her hair ears but is hard cause she moves so much. TY everyone for all the advise. |
I agree with washing their faces as if they were human babies..I use baby shampoo on their faces but it is puppy baby shampoo. The rest of their body gets done with another shampoo. I do not put anything in their eyes but IF i ever have to I use an antibiotic ointment. It does not run like the oil.. I use a powder in the ears to aid in pulling the hair with a surgical forcep-mosquito. Mala seb is the liquid I use to cleanse the ears. Occasionally, one of my crew will get a yeast infection so it is easy to prevent it. Also, white vinegar 1:1 with water is a good cleanser... |
I just wanted to add something about the ear hair removal. i was also afraid to do that chore. so it only took one time visit to the vet to try it my self. I asked them to do it for me as i was afraid it would hurt them (dogs). they charged me $7.00 to rip that hair right out of there. there was no response from Buckeye so i mentioned it not hurting him. the lady said they do not have nerve endings in the inside of the ears. they may not like it done cause they will hear the ripping sound but it don't hurt them. if you get any of the outter hair it will hurt them. I do it my self now and it is no big deal. |
I have never put cotton balls in Sassy's ears; however, I do put drops (I got from vet) in afterwards. The drops not only cleanse the ears, but also balances pH, moisturizes (with aloe) and guards against ear mites. It is good stuff. Sassy is 2 1/2 years old, gets a bath weekly and has never had an ear infection of any kind. |
What is that stuff called? |
Just one thing to remember before cleaning or putting anything in puppies ears. If the ears smell reall bad or have a dark gunk in it. Please take your puppy to the vet. No amount of ear cleaner will remove the oder... it will just come back in a week, because your puppy may already have an yeast infection or mites. Do not delay with taking your puppy to the vet. Now if there is not oder go ahead and pulll the iner hair out and clean the ears. You should only need to remove the hair once a mount or every two weeks depending on hair growth. |
