Help!!!!!!!! ok, i picked up Remy friday and he is great... BUT... it seems that he is only great with me! EVERY person that he has come into contact with (my boyfriend, roomates. etc) he has barked uncontrollably at, growled at, pretty much gone CRAZY! So much that people think he is mean and are scared to pet him. I am afraid this is only going to get worse if i don't get it under control now...and i want to get it under control before he may bite someone! any advice or helpful hints would be greatly appreciated! |
How old is Remy? Is he a puppy? |
yes he is four months! |
Have things improved at all this week? |
Tino has started getting like that now, hes 8 months and is getting really funny with men, im at home with him all day so thiink hes getting attached tro me. he hates my bf shouting at me when we have a fight and Tino will go over to him and bark and show his teeth, he so tinny but got a bit att, hope things get better please let me know xx |
Things are MUCH better this week. I think he was just scared in the new environment. Too many new people in a new place, etc etc. He has bonded with my boyfriend (Thank God) b/c he stays with him when i have to work. He is still kind of aggressive towards strangers and other dogs when we go on walks-so i am working on that. Now, when we have company, he barks initially, but is totally fine once they come in, pet him, and get settled. He is just a little watchdog,i guess. he will growl, bark, and get up to investigate every little noise throughout the nite. I guess if that is the worst thing I have to deal with then we are doing fine! :) thanks for checking in on us! will be posting pics soon once i get them uploaded...since i've taken about a million-haha |
fear of a new situation or new people is what causes most of this behavior. To get them better socailized, take them out in public places, kids soccer or soft ball games, get them used to new noises, new faces, new sounds as much as possible. This is often the case in dogs who are removed from their mothers before 12 weeks of age. How old was your dog when you got him? Did the breeder do any socialization when he was young? These things are very important to a puppy to make them more sociable as an adult dog. You might have to do more training than usual in a fearful dog, but you can overcome this negative behavior. When he acts out like that with other people, what are "you" doing to correct this unwanted behavior?? |
so glad to hear things have improved |
