what does this mean? hey guys wat does it mean wen our babies shake themselves off??? ii heard that means something is bothering them! is that tue??? |
I've never heard that. Joey shakes himself off after I brush him, he always looks better after he does the shake, his hair just falls perfectly into place. |
I haven't heard anything about it either. But I will say that if that's true, maybe I should try it! I guess the saying "Just shake it off" might have some meaning to it, huh? |

I have never heard anything on it, but in the last six months Penny has started shaking herself whenever we tell her no or if she doesn't like something. She has always done it to get our attention. In fact, when she used to sleep with us, she would get close to my face and shake so that her fur would slap me in the face!! Riley has starting shaking her body in response to certain things as well. Actually, it kinda annoys me, especially with Penny. She's such a sasser!!! :( |
I just did a Google search on this and there are a few results concerning canine behavior. Basically, they say a dog will do that when they are uncomfortable or to relieve tension. It can follow a reactive state (such as barking) or when a dog is "shaking off" nervous energy. Another article says it can occur when the dog has an undesirable experience. So there are a few different answers out there, but they all seem tied together basically. The nervous energy shake-off and undesirable experience shake-off fit Penny to a T as she is a very anxious dog and will also shake off sometimes when we correct her. |

Well, Glory doesn't really shake too often, but every morning after I take them both out of the crate, Callie will shake. I don't see her as an anxious dog though --- actually quite the opposite. Maybe she's just so excited to get outta that crate! I would be too! |
mine will all shake themselves after a bath and toweling off,,,and after taking their clothes off,, Daisy will after brushing,, Crickets hair is long and she will "Fluff Herself" and fix her own hair,, Trixie I remember any shaking but after bath,,, :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I think shaking off is a normal thing. I know mine is a little stress when in the bathtub and then he will shake it off. Once he shakes it off, that means he is fine already. |
Just a note: All of the articles I read said the information was relative to shaking off outside of bath & grooming routines. That, as we all know, is normal dog behavior! :p |
I like to think of it as them doing what we all do when we dont want to hear something or dont want to do something They are doing what we do when we *sigh* and shrug our shoulders lol or like a kid stomping its feet! Animals seem to have their own way of doing what we do.... |
 After I give mines a bath, I would tell them to "shake shake" and they shake off the water from their fur. :D |
