have you had a fur baby flown?
 

Hi everyone. I have a question I hope some of you can answer. Darby is being flown here from Virginia ( I am in Florida) next week. He is 12 weeks old. I have never done this before, and I am not sure of what to expect. Val is flying him on Continental because they carry them inside the plane, not in luggage. She said they will deliver him to the baggage office. Is there something I should bring with me? I am planning on neutrical, just in case. I thought I would bring clean towels in case he has messed in his crate, and a soft blanket for comfort. Can I take him out of the carrier inside the office? How do I let him go potty ( I have pads); or will they make me take him all the way to parking first? I guess this would all sound stupid to many, but here on yt, I know I am not the only nervous nelly when it comes to our babies. Thanks so much:)

Sounds like you have it covered. When I got Sampson he flew in from Texas, and they took him to the counter, I was scared to death that something happen to him cause there were alot of people standing looking in at his crate, they were wanting on me to take him out, everyone wanted to see him. I took some bottled water to put in his crate on the ride home, and gave him nutracal as soon as I got him to the car, as for as taking him potty, he had a washable potty pad in his crate, so I didn't worry with that. He was 13 weeks and did great. Good luck and get us updated.

Hi - it sounds like you have it covered. Both Gracie and Lillie were flown to MD from FL on Continental and they were perfectly fine. They never messed in their crate, but I just got them out and held them right away. I did not worry about the bathroom thing until I got home with them.

In-cabin Pets

Continental allows domesticated cats, dogs, pet rabbits and household birds to be carried in the aircraft cabin on most U.S. flights within the U.S. An in-cabin pet may be carried in lieu of a carry-on bag and is subject to a $95.00 service charge each way ($190.00 for round trip travel). Pets can be booked online or by calling Continental Reservations for assistance.

For travel outside the U.S. with an in-cabin pet, contact Continental Reservations (800.525.0280 in the U.S.) for assistance and information about international in-cabin pet acceptance and service charges.

Pets must be carried in an approved in-cabin kennel. The pet must be able to move comfortably in the kennel (stand up and turn around). The kennel must fit completely under the seat forward of the customer and remain there at all times aboard the aircraft. Maximum hard case kennel dimensions are: 22" L x 14" W x 9" H (56 cm L x 36 cm W x 23 cm H).

In-cabin pet kennels may be available for $55.00. The dimensions are 17" L x 12.5" W x 8" H (43 cm L x 32 cm W x 20 cm H).

In-cabin pet restrictions:

* Only one pet per passenger is allowed in cabin.
* One pet per flight is allowed in the front cabin (select aircraft only).
* Four pets per flight are allowed in the Economy cabin (Continental Airlines, Continental Micronesia and Continental Express flights only).
* One pet per flight is allowed in the Economy cabin (Continental Connection flights only).
* Pets are not permitted in the BusinessFirst cabin of Boeing 757, 767 or 777 aircraft due to inadequate storage space under the seat.
* Customers traveling with an in-cabin pet may not be seated in the bulkhead or an emergency exit row.
* Pets are not permitted on flights to and from Hawaii.
* Pet must remain in the kennel at all times on board the aircraft.
* Customer is responsible to determine and comply with all state entry requirements which may apply.
* Advance arrangements must be made.
* Pets under eight weeks old are not permitted.
* Pet must travel on the same flight as the owner.:thumbdown
* No oxygen will be administered to a pet in the event of an emergency.

I would talk to Continental personally concerning how this baby will be flown, Continental has had 8 deaths and 8 injuries to pets reported 2005-2006. I would have to be positive this pup would not end up in the cargo bay as it
isn't heated or cooled, actually it is a sealed area in case of fire.

I agree, it sounds like you have it all covered. Yes, the minute you see that crate, pick that little baby up and give him a big kiss. I have flown quite a bit with my guys and have never had a problem having them out of their crates in the airport. As for potty, when I brought Darbee home, we went into the washroom and I put down a pp pad in there for him. After he finished, I gave him some water. I bet you cna't wait for the day. When is he coming?

He is coming Thursday, I can't wait. He is my first Biewer, and I am too excited for words:)

I would make sure to bring a clean towel or two, baby wipes (incase he needs cleaned up), nutrical, water, and a small bowl. I am sure that he will do just fine! Most of us with Biewers had to have ours shipped from Germany which meant a whole day of worrying that they were alright on such a long flight. Congratulations on your new baby and don't worry, I am sure that everything will go just great!

I had my last baby flown in and brought the same things others mentioned - towels, baby wipes, water and pee pads. I also brought along a scissors - to cut the plastic ties off the crate, and chopped up pieces of Natural Balance roll. I took him directly to the bathroom and put the pee pad on the floor but he was more interested in sniffing around so I wrapped him up in a blankie and fed him a couple bites of food and he slept in the car the whole way home:)
